Anyone who's done a Windows "Notification Area" program knows this already... yet I still use "// Tray message" kinds of comments :P

RoD, I've been reading Raymond Chen's blog for over a month now, and it has never been down for me. The website is up right now, and it has worked for all others I have sent it to. Not only that, but it loads instantly. Please check to ensure that it is not the URL in question that is causing problems before giving me the thumbs down. Thanks.

Here's a direct link to his main page in case the problem was with formatting the URL in your browser.

I have to admit that I am one of the people who believed it was called the System Tray as a result of terminating systray.exe and watching the notification area icons disappear.

Whatever the official name, to the rank and file, it is the system tray. A hacker is a skilled programmer, but no, he is one who breaks into other peoples systems.

Once a term has entered the dumb ass world of the media, it matters not how much one tries to corect the fact, the corrupted term/meaning remains the de-facto.

Yes, I agree. I just posted a comment in the blog that basically relates the term System Tray vs. Notification Area to Windows vs. Interface Manager (the original name of Windows). One term reads much easier than the other. For this reason alone, you would think that they would want to change the name to System Tray.
