    Exclamation Incredibly Stupid People

Well...today I was very amazed at the utter stupidity of some people in this world. Now, before I go on any further, let's make one thing clear:

Ignorance - for the purposes of this post, if you are ignorant, then that is okay. For example, if you are a French major in college, and dont know a single thing about computers, then that is okay. You are ignorant about computers because you dont need to know anything about computers for your French major.

Stupidity - this is not okay. For example, if you are a Computer Science major in college, and know not one thing about computers, you are considered stupid in my mind...

Now, keeping this in mind...I saw a lot of stupid people today in my Computer Science 124 class here at my university. They asked my professor some of the STUPIDEST questions I never thought I would hear exit the words of the mouth of a Computer Science major...

So here they are, for your viewing pleasure! Stupid questions asked by Computer Science majors to their CS Professor!

    1. "How do I save a word document as a text file?"

    2. Student: "How do I open a .pdf file?"
    TA: "Are you using Windows?"
    Student: "I think so..."

    3. "So up until now with 64 bit processors we could only computer 64 bits at a time?"

    4. "Why does the binary number 0001 represent the number 1 and not the number -1?"

*claps and cheers* Yea for the stupidity! Now, I could easily understand someone of a non-computer major not knowing those things. But those were all COMP SCI majors that asked those questions!

(If anyone else has had any experiences such as this...please...post them on this thread so we can laugh at other peoples stupidity...)

Welcome to every low 100 csc course at any school every where in the world. Seriously theres always at least one idiot in the class - some times your lucky and get 10 at the same time.

When you get to the 200+ courses its a bit better. Most every one has been through 2, 3 or 4 classes by then so its much better. But theres still silly - not quite so stupid- but silly questions.

I experins stuff like this 2 days a week when me and my class mates are suposed to learn how to use windows, word etc etc (god I hate those classes)....execpt....it's the teacher asking the questions (cuz she doens't know (it's stuff like now why isn't my screen working?! when someone plugged it out)) ...and mostly me answering them...
They say that if you play a Windows Install CD backwords, you hear satanic messages. That's nothing; play it forward and it installs Windows.

Well, one thing you have to realize too is that not everyone knows exactly what they want to do in their lives. And even if you think you might know what you want, things can change y'know, and they do. I thought I wanted to do CS, what a lot of you are doing that browse these boards, but I found that I was more interested in computer architecture, and now analog electronics and filters.

Fortunate are those who knew more about what they were getting into at the time they signed up, but sometimes it takes people a year or two of their undergrad to find out what their calling is, and even then sometimes they find it is not.

Yes, but at some point you have to assume the person has prior knowledge of what's going on. I'd like to play professional football; I'm really good at Madden. However, I'm not that great at real football, and am smart enough to know that it shouldn't be my career.

Someone I know who has been using the internet for a long time came and got me so that I could look at his computer screen. He asked me this question:
    "What's this?"
Me: "It's a popup window. Close it"
    "Oh, okay. That's all."
    Away.

Agreed. Guess different people decided differently when to say when. I suppose it also varies how and when people do things because they are good at it or they enjoy it. I'm starting not to enjoy my coursework... let's hope it's just a phase... (no pun intended).

The worst are the popups that fake a console. I get so many questions about those.
