    What is a troll?

Unfortunatly the thread in which this information would have been best fitted was closed too soon for enlightenment.

To all the "new" or noob users of the forum this is what a Troll is.

On another note - if your going to try to be a smart ass by stating definitions - it would be a good idea to check a source that relates to the subject matter AND syntax. Forum slang/lingo or JARGON definitions are found in Jargon Files - not websters dictionary.

    /end public service announcement.

(it should be realized my posts are all in a light hearted manner. And should not be taken offense to.)

I've been on BBSes for 43 years. Back when they had teletype terminals and printf really did just print "f"

a troll is derived from the days of ultima online (1989), when an ascii character was actually a little picture of a troll
people used to post it when they really got ........ed off.

The troll was eventually replaced with # because Microsoft (inventors of ASCII) were sued by tolkiens daughter over patent infringement.
