I've never heard of anything like this. This is really bizarre.

The idea is taken from a movie. I can't recall it's name though.
Must have been a terrible situation for the pizza man

Yeah, it's like a scene in Swordfish, but I don't know if that's where they got the idea.
It's weird that they don't know more, though - the guy woulda needed an address to go to. Guess it could have been fake, but it still seems like there'd be something.

We've been discussing this case on another site I post at, it seems that the bomb squad took more than 3 hours to get to the scene.
Really is a weird case this one.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity unto the dream.
Maybe Erie didn't have a bomb squad? OTOH, they've got over 100K people, so they probably did.

I don't think that would've been a bad way to go. I of course would've eaten a pizza first.
Heheh, I live like 10 minutes away from where this happened.
WOW.
If he wasnt a part of the scheme, that was one bad way to die.
I dont understand. He pulled out a key and started the timing device. Why on earth would he do that?

When it said "He pull out the key" or whatever I think they were referring to the person that put the bomb on the guy.
you killed him, didn't you? bastardHeheh, I live like 10 minutes away from where this happened.
When they say he pulled out a key i think they were refering to the dead man. Sounds to me like an attempted suicide by cop or likewise call for help be a depressed man.
Sounds pretty clear that the person who pulled the key out was the man who strapped it on him.As he sat on the ground, Wells said, "Why is nobody trying to get this thing off me?" and "I don't have a lot of time."
Wells also described someone arming the device and strapping it to him.
"He pulled a key out and started a timer. I heard the thing ticking when he did it. It's going to go off. I'm not lying."
Can I say that is a sad way to die sitting in the middle of the road alone with an explosive collar around your neck while people are sitting around doing nothing.
"When I die I want to pass peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather did, not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car."
the address was a radio tower out in the middle of nowhere... I think it was a setup... doesn't seem too out there to me... some guy wants to rob a bank/make a mess, so he builds a bomb... then he calls the pizza guy to get a delivery, when the guy comes, he jumps out with a gun and puts the bomb on the guy... then he tells him to go rob the bank, and starts the timer... the guy doesn't have much of a choice, because if he doesn't rob the bank, the guy won't take the bomb off... so he goes for it... then the police come, the bomber runs and the pizza guy gets taken by police and nobody defuses teh bomb... (from what i heard, it was 30 minutes from when he got into the bank). nobody listens to the guy saying he wants the bomb off and he's taken hostage, because they think he's trying to draw people near to blow them away... so they leave him... and then he goes boom and the police go oops and the bomber goes heheheOriginally posted by Govtcheez

Could it be that maybe just maybe no one was qualified to disarm a bomb and as such didn't want to risk setting the bomb off.nobody listens to the guy saying he wants the bomb off and he's taken hostage, because they think he's trying to draw people near to blow them away
Also he wasn't taken hostage, he was arrested.
Its a sad end but I can't fault the police for doing their jobs. Sounds like the bomb squad was slow but it still might not have changed the outcome.
