Question For those of you in college, do you take 4 or 5 classes per semester?

I'm just curious how many classes you take per semester?

I'm taking 5, plus I work 30 hours a week, and my counselor encouraged me to take just 4, but I feel I can handle 5.

Just curious, for those of you who take 5 classes, how many hours of homework do you usually have per week?

I think the larget questions is how many units are we taking. Since taking 5 classes worth 1 unit each is a lot different from 4 classes worth 3 units each.

First nine weeks: 2 classes worth 3 units each. And one class worth 4 units.

Second nine: Picking up an english class worth 3 units.

Due to the classes I need loading up on classes won't get me out of there any sooner.

This is the only semester that I have planned to take 4 classes. The other 5 are setup with 3 classes and still taking 13 units a semester.

Yeah it just depends on the curriculum. Plus, some classes you might already have some experience in so it makes it easier perhaps. But counselors usually try to tell you to take less just to be safe I'd say. Ultimately it is up to you. Thirty hours a week of work eh? Wow, for some that's enough without class or perhaps a part-time load. Best of luck friend.

I normally take about 20 credits (5 classes) a term, but that's only because I need over 170 credits to get my degree.

    Heavy course load for me.

dbgt goten & Govtcheez, how does your collage assign credits?

For mine 1 credit is basically 1 hour of class per week.

Classes will labs seem to be different, my pascal class has 3 hours of lecture per week and 3 hours of lab time but it is a 4 unit class.

We usually have about 6 classes per semester. Although there was one semester we had 7 classes.

Basically the same, except 2 hours of lab only count for 1 credit.

Our normal term will have 5 courses that they expect us to take. Some are required courses others you get to choose. I wanted to have 4 courses each term this year, so I took some Spring and Summer courses.

I was in the same situation as Cheez on this one. But I also agree with what someone else said. I took 6 classes with 2 or 3 labs (i can't remember how many labs) one semester, but that was only 21 credits. Then again, I didn't work during that time either... and I couldn't have. I spent most of my friday and saturday nites reading or studying that semester.
