xp pro seems to be decent. no only is it fast as .........., but also seems to be pretty stable for microsoft. 3weeks with no reboot. i had to reboot 98se AT LEAST weekly...

my linux box has been rebooted once since the install (2months), and it's never become unstable....

    oh yeah,
RedHat 7.2 retail distro--40 bucks after rebate. (download it free)
complete with all the development tools i would ever need
XP pro-- 200 bucks....(free if you choose to break the law)
crisp visually and the fastest graphical enviroment i've ever seen. I've never used BeOS though. it's supposed to be fassst...

gamegod: <Linux I have heard of crashes in witch it never works.>
what do you mean by this? witches? where? 90 percent of all the cr*p you hear about linux is due to some chump who doesn't know what he's talkin' about. There's nothing more admirable than someone who tries something new and quits after the first attempt...then, they proceed to trash it because they couldn't figure it out..."man, it never worked right. Linux sucks". i love hearing stuff like that.. gamegod, you should give it a shot for yourself. It's really not so difficult to read about it, or to ask someone for help...you might even learn something about how computers work. Microsoft seems to think people don't need to know that... hence the piece named ME
THIS IS NOT JUST A CHRONICLING OF THINGS WE HAVE DONE IN THE PAST BUT OUR RISE TO POWER.

    >>Was it 2.5 years old?<<

Nope sorry, I didn't know DVD players (For a comp) were available 2.5 years ago. It must have cost a small fortune... Have you tried the compatability test yet?

Now that I have WinXP I need a designer set of comp hardware. Like a metallic silver keyboard, and monitor, and tower case. That would kick ass. Most of them are in grey, black or whiteish. Unless you buy a mac or one of those alien ware PCs. I have this incredable urge to spend as much money as possible on totally useless stuff.

I think Im going to buy a new guitar...

    Question XP. Exploited?

Whats XP like? IS it stable? does it do all the things we wanted from 95? (bet it doesn't!)

I saw a few screenshots of XP last week. I have to say, i dont like the fact that my OS now look slike a big blue n green cartoon! I still run 95 on my main machine (98 on my other, and RH on my server) because i dont like my OS to....

    1. Animate. I dont want to wait for menus to "slide" onto my screen... i want it there instantly!
    2. Make studpid, seccond rate sound affects every time i do something..
    3. install things i specifically told it not to. For example. when setting up 9x it always installs msn, and other isp's. Even if you tell it not to. Grrrrr.

Anyway, back to the point. How do you find it? Is it really worth the downgrade?

    1. If you have a good computer you won't have to wait for menu's to "slide" I haven't had to worry about graphics on my computer ever since I traded in my 386mhz comp for a real one.

    2. It is possible to turn off second rate sound affects.

    3. It's didn't install other ISP's on my comp, it installed MSN but who cares it's not a memory hog and if you want to get rid of it go for it.

I like XP it's pretty stable, I haven't rebooted my PC since yesterday, I find everything is way freakin' faster. It supports all of my hardware, connecting to my ISP was freakin' easy I didn't have to do sh** it just detected the connection and made things happen. And I like the interface. Great Graphical display, I currently use the Silver setting, my OS is stylin' It's good buy it.

I like windows 1.01 to 2000, but no ME nor XP, I just hate that MS took away windows' full DOS support! and Win2K is far too good, and I don't care if it doesn't have DOS support, anyway, I have Win98 SE and Win2K at the same time

Buy the OS. Isn't that a little unorthodox?

Dude, windows XP is NT based, just like 2k, plus it has backward compatibility modes for previous versions (except I still cannot get the friggin PC port of Sonic CD to work on it!). W2k sucks when it comes to gfx, especially when the current NT version of DirectX doesn't support RDX or direct show.

If you're looking for a simple way to run dos games, crack out a boot disk for one of your older games that has the DOS kernel on it and use that.

My DVD player WAS 2.5 years old (about) and WinXP keeps b*tching about getting a DVD decoder upgrade...I've never played DVDs on it before in my life, so I really don't care...
