    carpal tunnel

I'm 17. I'll be a teenager for over two more years. Therefore, by well known and widely accepted theorems, I should be invincible for AT LEAST two more years

I am pretty sure that I'm developing carpal tunnel instead of still being invincible. Every day since Sunday, my right arm has gone numb when I use my hand. I stopped using the computer a few days ago - this is the most I've typed in that long. But it hasn't stopped... and today I moved some furniture around, and my left arm started hurting. I'm wearing those splints made for carpal tunnel, but they don't seem to be doing much. Anyway, I probably won't be around here much for a while, unless I have some remarkable recovery, and if I am around, I probably won't post much. Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with carpal tunnel? I haven't seen a doctor yet, so I'm not positive that's what it is, but I'm pretty sure. I'll probably end up seeing a doctor though.
    Away.

I had something like that awhile ago, it went away after i didnt do much.

I do some competition shooting(nra matches), one day in prone i couldnt fell my arm from my elbow down(right/mouse/trigger arm). It didnt fell like it fell a sleep, it was something different. Not sure how to put it.

I think my muscle just needed to get stronger, nothing that bad.

I was scheduled for a appointment anyway so i brought it up, it wasnt anything. You might want to bring it up but its probally nothing unless you spend insane hours typing in some funky posistion.

I'm on a computer about 12 hours a day. No problem with any pain. Here is my prevention plan:

    1) Have proper hand placement
    2) Rest your hands once in a while
    3) Jerk off daily (increases hand strength)
    4) Motrin, lots of Motrin

^^^ummm^^^ above could be good idea, but not sure.

Just, well, dont be a friggin wimp and get on with it!

Excersise. Not going down no poncy gym or anything-just find something heavy and easy to hold. Then WORK it hard. I work hard at work (not at a PC ALL day mind) then work hard at home (build/cut/carry/dig etc) and I have no bother.

Is it a flame to say that man was born to work physically hard, and not ponce around at a keyboard all day-seeing as this is a prog site I mean?
    Such is life.

Only time I had anything similar to carpal tunnel was tendonitus, which I developed working at a job sliding metal brackets into a form, and twisting them, over and over again with moderate to quick speed, with moderate force.

After taking a break from doing that(3-4 years), I seem to be fine. At least, that's what the Doc said at my recent physical for a new job when he was done testing the condition by poking and twisting my wrist in various fashions.

    > find something heavy and easy to hold.
I do this with my 27" high, 18" wide speaker cabinets. 51lbs. Pressing them up and down, over my head after I have hoisted them up there in a standing position. I don't think I could do that with my 223lb TV though.

    > WORK it hard.
    If you say so.
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.

    Fountain -
I'm not sure if you were trying to insinuate that I'm a wimp or not. But if you were... I'm not. I work out and am fairly muscular. It's not that I couldn't take the pain from typing, either. It didn't hurt very badly - but I didn't want to mess myself up worse for the rest of my life. So I took a break. Maybe it got better, because my wrists haven't hurt at all today, and I've done some typing. But I'm going to keep taking it easy for a while. Playing it safe never hurts.
    Away.
