I've never really thought about where the name came from, but I seem to remember in the early days of email/internet the big joke was to email someone a picture of Spam with the note "You've been Spammed!" attached to it.
Thats my guess for where it came from, time to google for the correct answer...

It did actually come from the "meat" I believe. Spam (which is an acronym anyway) is basically the crap meat - like spam being the crap email.

yeah, it came from monty python, which meant it as the meat, but it got related to mass produced badness, which is the internet-spam...

well in that case I suppose Hormel really does have a case here. I mean you can't just use someone else's product name in your own. If it is derived from the Spam product as an original source then Hormel should win. Its just strange.

On the radio yesterday they said that Hormel didn't mind the word use; they just didn't like it when pictures of their product were used.
