    Guitar

At a request someone asked that I record a solo. Here it is. It's Eruption by Van Halen. I think I did a better job on it than I did the freestyle one. Please give me your comments on what you did and didn't like.

Overdrive isn't nearly as cool as you think it is.
    Away.

I'm almost 100% sure he uses overdrive. He uses a stack Marshall with some weird stuff. I'm doing this with a old tube Crate, Gibson Les Paul Custom with the EMG 81, 85 pickups, a Boss dist. pedal, Boss Chorus pedal, the amps overdrive and thats it. I'm not getting close to Vans, Randys, Zakks, Kirks quality tone with that set up. For Eruption I had to use my old stock BC Rich NJ Beast for the whammy bar. I'm set up for metal riffs. And It's not worth my time to record a metal song that you won't reconise or appreciate how much work I put into it.

im not tryin to be a dick but its pretty sloppy. i know a lot of players do this intentionally but i dont like it. also, tapping is easy, you should be able to pull off the end part (yes, i noticed the major flaw before you hit the end note w/whammy)

you have potential but you need to work more on technique, style will come with practice.

again, this might sound a little harsh but get used to it if your into the music buisness. keep playing, practice running scales, its the key to thrashing.

I know next to nothing about good guitar playing, but it sounded impressive to me.

Perspective. I don't think you are a dick. I asked for opinions on it and you told me. Yeah I did a little improvising on it. I've been working on the finger tapping. I get a bunch of problems with the finger tapping. That and artificial harmonics aren't my strong point. (Did anyone else have some problems opening the file? I can't open my own MP3 )

Opened fine in Windows Media Player. I assume that it would open in Winamp too, although I didn't try.

    opened fine with quick time.

its good that you can take feedback about your playing. many musicians freak out about it. i practically have to make people pick me apart sometimes because they are too nice

For some strange reason, listening to your guitar playing makes me want to watch a Bill and Ted movie. That Keanu Reeves can play one hell of an air guitar!!!

Hmm...havent played a guitar in a very long time...

I guess I'm quite good on rhythm, but when in comes to doing solos I tend to get into a blur...not a note stands out clear

the last time I posted a shredding solo they didn't like it too much. I have to admit there was too much feedback and the quality sucked. These are clearer though. I have a couple more.

Pretty good stuff, noticed a few spots that I didn't like, but it all comes with time, man. Just keep working at it!
