It's fifty bucks. I saw it in a bookstore today. Do you think I should buy it? In addition to your vote in the poll, please give your reasons.

"The computer programmer is a creator of universes for which he alone is responsible. Universes of virtually unlimited complexity can be created in the form of computer programs." -- Joseph Weizenbaum.
"If you cannot grok the overall structure of a program while taking a shower, you are not ready to code it." -- Richard Pattis.
I flipped through one of those a couple months ago out of interest and it was very outdated. The one I looked at was published in the Xp period of windows but was based on 95.
"When I die I want to pass peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather did, not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car."
i wouldnt. Not because its not a good boox/series, but because all the information contained within them can easily be got on the internet for free. Start reading up @ www.neworder.box.sk
Wow thanks RoD. Thats a very informative site.

I thought the 'hacking exposed' series is more popular?
I don't understand...Do you wish to hold a Computer Security seminar cum training session at your company, institute or college (given by Ankit Fadia)? If yes, then Email Us your proposals and we can discuss further. See the 'About Me' page for info on Fadia's vast, definitive experience in the field of Computer Security & Digital Intelligence
Ever heard of a Bukkake party?
Anyway, I'd rather just go to happyhacker.org and browse the GTMHH. I used to read that a lot about 2 years ago.
Titles like that sound very corny to me, so I immediately distrust it.I thought the 'hacking exposed' series is more popular?
Wow, from what I've seen so far, a very good site. It has an extensive collection of knowledge for beginners. This is just what I was looking for--something that is extremely newbie friendly. Thank you, Ken.Anyway, I'd rather just go to happyhacker.org and browse the GTMHH.

The Hacking Exposed series of books are considered some of the best books about security. Just go to amazon.com's book section and search for Hacking Exposed and then check out the average customer review for the few books in the series. Like they always say....don't judge a book by its cover, or name in this case.
Hmm... thats a book by an Indian.. I wouldnt suggest that book.. I bought it.. it is basic stuff such as how to get WIndows Pass, Dial Up pass, simple shell commands to see who is connected to the server etc etc..
all crap..

Thank you, RoD. I'd like to let everyone know that I know absolutely nothing about hacking. I know a decent amount about C++, but I've never coded in C or Perl or anything like that. I know nothing about networking, TCP/IP, etc. This is the problem I'm running into. Everyone on the internet seems to assume that everyone is just about as smart as them. So, I go to a site with guides on hacking, and I can barely understand the stinking thing.Originally posted by RoD

I was messing around on the www.try2hack.nl and I got to level 5. Then I am 100% lost. (Note- Moderators this site is based off white hat hacking. They don't condone illegal hacking
