Thread: What type of music you listen too?

new punk is more of a "fad" then a "genre" imo

Maybe you're listening to the wrong kind of punk if you're mentioning bands like The Ataris, The Vines, The Hives, the whoever! All those bands listed suck, imo. However, not many bands are punk nowadays. It's more like post-indie rock and other new made up genres like that. For good bands that for one reason or another fall under the category of punk by the general public check out these ones:

1 - a fast pace style of indie play with a bit of pop-punk influences

2 - an indie style of play that at times reaches a faster pace while reaching almost reaching a hard stance at peaks and at times will slow down quite a bit

3 - an indie style of play that varies like 2 does except reaches harder peaks

4 - a harder style of play that has primarily indie influences

5 - a slower paced sound with a lot of emo and indie fluences but at times can pick up the pace

6 - a typical pop-punk sound except they're actually good


There's quite a big list that should give people a chance to listen to a wide variety of music that as said before the general public lists under punk.

You know what's really rad? With punk music, the singers are
interchangable.

Why won't punk die? It's such crap; nothing more than a gimic.

Black Sabbath impacted the metal scene, pretty much by starting it. Rock has been around for longer, though, and much more credit can be given to the Beatles than Black Sabbath.

Actually, I have a CD which fits into that genre...Days of the New, green album... although it's not really post-modern

You know it; I'm a hardcore balla! No, I was just trying to show some bands that people might want to try listening to. I have no 'street cred', so it would be quite hard for me to prove it. Not to mention, blackrat is right, a lot of those bands are fairly well known by now. You're also right that Thursday is becoming more mainstream, but at least they're not trying to change their sound like some bands do (*cough*Finch*cough*). Honestly, though, listen to some of those bands and see if you like them.


Zakk, you're right; Operation Ivy is more true punk than a lot of newer stuff.

Maybe it relates to the same reason why you're still alive? Also, there isn't much real punk around; it's post-indie rock like I said (lol). I'm laughing, because I know it's pointless to even call it that, but that is the real name for most of it nowadays.


Oh yeah, another sweet band is Smashing Pumpkins, but they're obviously not punk. There is this new song that is played on the radio that starts off exactly like a Pumpkins song. It throws me off everytime and gets me thinking it's a Pumpkins song coming up. No bueno!
