I'm not sure if I'll get in with a 3.1 g.p.a. and an 1170 SAT, but who knows, they may make a mistake

Or make $50.
I want to offer condolences
now. I applied to Princeton with a 4.0 GPA and SAT scores of 1470, but didn't make it in. Unless your parents are rich, powerful people willing to donate massive amounts of money to Harvard, I would not at all count on being accepted. Your time is much better spent doing more productive things.
FAQ
"The computer programmer is a creator of universes for which he alone is responsible. Universes of virtually unlimited complexity can be created in the form of computer programs." -- Joseph Weizenbaum.
"If you cannot grok the overall structure of a program while taking a shower, you are not ready to code it." -- Richard Pattis.
It only took 30 minutes to apply, I didn't need to write any new essays or anything like that. And it cost me 60 dollars, no big deal to me.Originally posted by joshdick

I don't think I'll get in, but I decided to apply for fun anyways. Worst thing is I get a rejection letter
And if they do make a clerical error, then I just made the best 60 dollar investment of my life

did you buy this book before you applied to Princeton?
$60 is a lot of money for having a 0.1% hope of getting in...
0.1%! OWA!!! i'd apply in a flash if my chances were that good!!!
Hey, I'm planning on applying to MIT next year. 1490 SAT (780 math 710 verbal), 32 ACT (gonna retake that), 3.85 GPA (not weighted), a bunch of AP classes, and a bunch of extra curriculars of an academic nature (math competitions, debate, model UN). Is there anyone here who has been accepted to MIT? I think I'll check out that book that Terrance posted a link to though

im applying to state school
I don't try in school and when I do I suck anyway so it doesn't matter
Yeah, I'm gonna too. I doubt I'm gonna get in though. I got 1430 SAT (that should get better as I'm taking the test again). 790 in Math SAT II. 680 in Chem Sat II (I only had 1 course of Chem though, no AP chem in my school). 4.9 weighted GPA out of 5 with a bunch of AP's too. Math Team and Academic Decathlon. Varsity Golf, Soccer, Tennis, and Basketball. VP of NHS. A bunch of miscellaneous service stuff. We'll see what happens but I'm no expecting much.Originally posted by blackrat364

Hey, just putting in my two cents:
My brother goes to Harvard, and he tells me that GPA and SAT scores are only one factor. Extracurriculars are also very important, and sports are a plus if you're good. Each of the Ivy league schools is trying to create a "diverse" class, so the chances of getting accepted are hard to quantify sometimes. That is, it's difficult to prove that not getting over a 1400 equates to less than a 1% chance of acceptance.
Also, see if you can apply for a fee waiver that should be mentioned on most applications. . .
