    Tranquility Bay

It's sick, twisted, disturbing and just plain WRONG.

Here's a link...there are two pages, and they're both long
    http://education.guardian.co.uk/clas...987932,00.html

What do you think about that?

    edit:
To give you an idea of what's there... here's a quote
Before sending their teen to Tranquility, parents are advised that it might be prudent to keep their plan a secret, and employ an approved escort service to break the news. The first most teenagers hear of Tranquility is therefore when they are woken from their beds at home at 4am by guards, who place them in a van, handcuffed if necessary, drive them to an airport and fly them to Jamaica. The child will not be allowed to speak to his or her parents for up to six months, or see them for up to a year.

terrible... That is so sickening. It is IMHO that if a teenager acts bad enough to go to this place, then it is the parents fault for not doing their job. How can a parent punish a kid because they are a bad parent. That makes me sick....

Its sick i agree no matter what your kiddo has done, punish it in a correct way.

What i do feel great is that you reward a kids bad behaviour with something good
    fly them to Jamaica
this country rox, you can smoke illegal $$$$ all day long, what a reward for behaving in a bad way..

Anyway its wrong what they do.

    ::edit::
oow you only qouted a funny piece of the article,
no its soo bad why do they do this.
BTW: does this really happens ?? or is it some hoax (it better be).

Gangly, I don't think it's a hoax. I also don't think the kids are smoking illegal $$$$ all day. I'm sure this violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (of course, most countries do in one way or another...including the US...and I'm not US bashing) Doesn't it violate anything else? And... a CALIFORNIA court decided that parents could send their kids there. California is probably the most liberal state in the US...I think that needs to go to the Supreme Court, because it's just wrong. Those parents belong in jail. Or hell. Maybe some of both.
    Away.

I was watching Maury one time and they had a kid and a parent on, and it was everybit as bad as that article says. The brainwashings, beatings, etc. Its like a cult the way they try to get your self-asteem down to mold you to be "good".

I think it's a hoax. But, whatever, their not my kids and I don't know what they have done. I've never heard of it before so I'll go with my immediate assumption.

    WOW!
I would not send my kids there. Imagine where they will send thier parents when the parents get too old to object?

    some obsrvations;

This guy has no qualifications, he was a "petrol-pump attendant, having dropped out of college. He has no qualifications in child development, but considers this unimportant." (lucky his parents did not send him somewhere for dropping out of college!)

His help has only high school qualifications.

    This says it all......

Hey. If any of you get sent there, I'll get you out for $40K, no questions asked............

I don't know, those kids look happy in the pictures. They're
playin' guiter, jammin', kickin' back in Jamaica. Looks like fun
to me. They're pothead, junky-freaks -- why would anybody listen
to anything they say? I'm not saying it isn't true, but you have
to consider the source... These kids may be bitter.

Cool, 3 "to"s all aligned with each other..

These kids shouldn't be allowed to think freely. They're obviously
stupid. Their "natural curiosity" has already led them down a path
of drug use and teenage sex. We can all sit back and say how
bad it is that they're being brainwashed, but at least they're
being brainwashed to be non-destructive to society.

Besides, it's not like a brainwashing is anything new to them. The
fact that these kids are even participating in these scum activities
proves that they've already been brainwashed. Nobody capable
of thinking for themselves would do drugs; I'm sorry, but it's true.
If Tranquility Bay wasn't brainwashing them, their moron peers
    and crappy music would be.

These children are too susceptible to suggestion, and that's scary.
When I walk outside, I don't want to think that one of these
people will kill me and steal my bling bling because someone on
the radio told him to do it. No way, uh-uh.

I second that when you talk about harddrugs...
When it comes down to softdrugs like weed, pot etc, then for me its like going to a bar/club/pub whatever and have yourself a beer. I think softdrugs like marihuana etc should be legalised just like alcohol..
But anyway this is off-topic. ( just my 2 cents )

"Tranquility is basically a private detention camp." and it's not like anyone is denying this fact. It's a prison. If you are willing to spend 40K on your child, you must be pretty desperate anyway. If it were a normal child, 40K could pay for some really nice school away from home if neccessary. I'm not saying it's okay, but I know at least one case of perfectly normal parents and a child that was so misbehaving, most other people couldn't even believe the stories. I would have been sorry for this one kid, but it's better to have one locked away than 20 suffering. That goes for adults, it should be the same with kids.

    Nonsense.

Someone who tries a few things in the quest for new experiences isn't incapable of thinking.

And that place..... looks like a horrific blending of 1984 and A Brave New World, it is trully obscene.

Right on, although they dont let those adolescents have babys like in A brave New world.

    @blackrat:
I understand what you mean but where i live softdrugs is legalised for ppl above 18 years and only if you use it with people above 18, and if you dont disturb other ppl by using this drugs...
And since its fairly easy to get some its like having a beer in a bar.
But i sincerely know what you mean, and i respect your point of view on it.
