I'm assuming he meant Canadian. That's like $25 in real money. That's no more than a normal hardcover. Pay no attention to Commander. He's been a pain in the ass for years now.Originally posted by the Wookie

I've read most of the first book and seen the second movie. I really enjoyed both, but will probably read the rest of them from the library, if I do at all.

I dont know about Canada, but here in the US it is definitely not $40. I got it for $17.66 (including tax).40 $ for a children;s book????
22$ canadian for the smoldering crap book at costco
It is an evil movie, and I cannot believe that there are people so obsessed with it. Like, come on guys, Star Trek kicks Harry's ass.

(I don't like the books and the movie, and I would never pay any money for this f$*king book)
the books are probably some of the best books written in the genre the last decade. They are not filled with the usual rubbish that
todays childrens books are.
Haven't read no5 yet but it's here beside me waiting.
I voted for the first although that was a bold lie, I'd
never rush for anything but I thought that was the option

keep it up harry!

I have not read the books but have seen the movies. I liked the movies. Kinda allows you to think of what there could be out there ... I dont think they are geared twards "young minds" but those who can allow reality and logic to disipate for awhile.
Also its getting kids behind books and out from behind the TV (and puters ). Ive seen too many kids now-a-days that cant even think on there own.. let alone read a book! That is where I think the best part of the Potter series is.. getting kids reading.
The author herself was quoted as saying it was written for young minds. She also mentioned her works do not come within a mile of the fantastic works of tolkien.I have not read the books but have seen the movies. I liked the movies. So stop with all these excuses it is a kids book! Now go read something worth while like the lord of the rings or if you really like kids books the chronicles of narnia...
Jesus, just shut up. So what if it's a book geared towards "young minds"? They're entertaining damn books. That's the important part. If you don't like them, then don't read them. It's not that freaking difficult. If someone else enjoys them, let them enjoy them. I don't go around saying LOTR is nothing more than Tolkien's version of intellectual masturbation.

What did you expect her to say? Everybody keeps comparing her to Tolkien, would you have her say "Of course I'm as good as the author many consider to be the best of all time in the fantasy genre!" Jeez your standards are high if you only like/read/watch things that are as good as the best in history. Lighten up!She also mentioned her works do not come within a mile of the fantastic works of tolkien.
IMO, only the first book felt like it was only geared towards young minds. The next ones, and especially Goblet of Fire could just as well pass for an adult book, although ones which kids would enjoy immensely as well. The movies weren't very good, absolutely nothing like the books at all, especially that god awful first one. Me personally I love the books, favorites being the second and fourth ones so far.
Right now I am on chapter 12 of the new one, and so far its a little slow which has surprised me a bit...
