    LAN parties

Ok, so I'm going to test drive my skills on hosting a LAN party in about a year. Right now I'm just thinking about it. I resently went to one and it was lots of fun, but people who hosted it were very smart. Now I start to think that if I try to do it I'll fail. But I know one thing I should not do - use a router - it is allways better to use a switch! Yep, that was a recomindation to everyone who is hoing to hose a LAN party.

At this particular party that I went to we hade some racing games, including Midtown Madness 2. And there was lots of beer, so I knew where everyone was leaning. First all was fine... Then one of my buddies got this idia (experiment) to see how bad drunk driving affect surtain people. You can probably imagine how everything ended....

But feel free to use this thread to post any of your LAN party experiences.

I've never been to one b4, but when I get my car I probably will go to some. I hear there are some in Huntsville (closest big town to me)

hey RoD, what are the few worst things about LAN parties?

And what games do support up to 35 people at the same time?
I know that some straategy games go only up to 16, and Freelancer is up to 32 (good game!, gets boring fast).

Freelancer: learning curve ~ 30min, boringness curve ~ 4days! This may very on your mood and personality allong with some other things...

not everybody plays the same games... you just get goups together and people do with the network pretty much what they want...

what games are the best out there for LAN parties? I actually like any type...

Oh yes... and is it a good idia to make a site for a LAN party, or is it just waste of time doing so. I read an article on http://www.overclockers.com on how it would be a good idia to have a site that lists things that need to be installed on comps and all the setup procedures. So this could be a good purpose for makin a site for LAN party - specially if you gonna host it more than once a month...?

Oh yes, also tell me if you were going to go to a LAN party - what kind of games would you want to play?

And is games all LAN parties are about, or is there hidden secrets I've not been showed?

If I get my house open for a weekend sometime I might host one here, since there are some people I know at school that would show up. I could probably get at least 15 people to show up (small party, but I live in a rural area, where the only thing people do is play football and listen to country music).

I think a good game selection would be Q3: Arena, Unreal Tournament 2003, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, and RTCW.

Actually I think warcraft3 or age of mythology could spice up the party without pizza
