Speaking of money... How much do an average LAN party need of money? Yeah, I know there are lots of averages

its all dependent. we have had lans run on no cash, and ones we spent 150-200.00 on, it jus depends. For the cprog one im renting out a 200x200ft warehouse space, so its going to cost more than nothing.

sorry major i didnt kno anyone got the idea after i did so i figured it was me.

for us...if we rent the community center hall it would be about 150$. then we need a decent sized switch, cables, hubs, power strips etc, which can run upwards of 500$. i can use my 2 computers for dedicated servers, but its not as simple and it sounds. and then snacks or whatever to be sold. there probably would be a entrance fee, but we need money to begin with. and you can only get a sponsorship if you've done it a few times and it was successful. and im not even sure of how many people from around here would attend.

and haha, that's probably why stuff takes so long. oh well

i always plan on double the expected. i have approx 500ft of cat5, every bit of 40 NIC's, several switches, two 40port hubs, countless surge's, two of my own dedicated servers (950mhz/256mb ram/20gigs), and the room would run same idea bout 150.00

I hadnt really planned on an entrance fee, but it would be cool if we could do one that covered the costs (not hard), and donate the excess to cprog or something.

As for food, u could always do BYO.

wookie: I was thinking try to get some major BYO going... we'd never get the money to get all the stuff, but we could advertise REALLY early, saying that we'll need people to bring stuff... there are some companies around here that might sponsor us without experience... not in a big sponsorship way, but maybe something like $50 in equipment or money... they could set up a booth or have floor space or something...

if we turned it into a media event... we could get news12 there if we told them we were kids putting this thing together... they cover that stuff all the time... it would turn into (almost) free advertising for the companies... i should have sent this in the form of a PM

BYO equipment won't work and you can't count on it. i dont think anyone would take apart their home network for it either.

BYO works for food but aside from that its asking for problems. I dont see a reason for turning it into a news thing, dont think they would really care. With my schedule and life at the moment i could set a realistic date in september but no sooner than that. I thought no one was interested so i had basically let it die.

news12 likes covering that stuff... and it would turn into some more advertisement for the sponsors...

now that i think about it, BYO equip won't work...

i think he was referring to me, i had one set for july 9th back in september
July 9th is my birthday! I'll be 15.

Oh, and if you are hosting a board sponsored LAN party, where will it be at? I can't be there if it isn't in Tennessee (lol).
