ATI Cheats on Benchmark tests (or claimed to)

Hehehe, this is going to make you ATI fanboys mad:
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/3/30880.html

I knew the ATI cards weren't as fast as they were reporting, it just seemed unnatural. I figured something was up. I never thought this though.

They say they are uncertain though. What do you guys think? They said NVidia cheated as well. I don't know.

Edit: I reread that again, and it appears that they merely "tweaked" it a bit. I still think that's cheating. I think I'm going to go with the last suggestion "Compare the screen grabs of comparable scenes and base your buying decision on the one that looks the best at 30fps.". In that case, I'm glad I went with nVIDIA on my last three cards, because they look better than ATI cards. If they could just speed up their Anti-aliasing they will r0x0rz

lol... no wait, I'm sorry ROFLMAO!!!

I'm sorry to hear that you don't know more about nVidia's cheating. Listen, ATI cheated by approx. 8 percent on the Mother Nature test, for an overall of a little over 1.

nVidia on the other hand... well. Um. The 44.03 drivers give a near 30% score improvement over previous drivers. Well, now that the new 3DMark 03 patch is out that improvement is gone

"After an initial report at ExtremeTech, Futuremark revisited the tests and discovered eight instances of cheating, which improved the performance of NVidia's Detonator FX and WHQL drivers by as much as 24.1 per cent. "

    Let's see
ATI = overall approx. 1 percent score increase by cheating
nVidia = overall approx 25 percent score increase by cheating.

So, in otherwords, you have it backwards. ATI cards are as fast as they say they are. The FX series of nVidia on the other hand, well, they're not.

Oh, and I'm not an ATI fanboy by the way. I actually have a GF4 Ti4200. Just thought I'd help show both sides of the story.

3DFX probably gave them all the idea
They'll all probably call it a bug and get away with it.
