From my point of view, each lifeform has this "curiousity" native.
Not me... though 'nosy' is a pretty good description.

    It's a good theory...

I think this may be the best thread I've read for ages. The subject of space and time facinates the hell out of me and I watch all the crappy documentries on TV, i'ts like did you know that time travels faster the more gravity is acting on it. So when you are in a plane at 30,000ft you are aging less than somone standing on the surface of the earth!!! Of course the difference is so small we never notice it

...far better than the one that says animals created man and are observing and monitoring our behaviour everyday. Like a huge lab experiment.

not very well informed but curious

    >>Kinda like SimCity.

AAA!! HELP!!! There's a gigantic newspaper covering the sky!

Hmmm...such a hard topic for discussion. It's fascinationg to no end, but we barely have any proof to back ourselves up. It's all theories and such...but here's my two cents ANYway...

For one, I don't beleive time travel will ever be possible. It stems from my belief that time doesn't exist, it's just something used to coordinate when (although how can there be a "when" without time?) something happens. I mean, think about it. What IS time? Just a perpetual counter. So how can turning back a counter possibly take us back to another moment? And the more I think about it the harder it is to explain what I'm trying to say. I mean, think about how come people think we can go back through time. They think that going around in circles faster than the speed of light will somehow transport us around to previous or future moments in time. Well for one thing those previous moments haven't happened yet, so how can you see them? and if you DID somehow manage that, how can you get back to YOUR time? It's already passed by, you can't go back there. The only reason I say it could be possbile to "visit" the future is because if you're going that fast you'll most likely age slower or even stop aging. So in the blink of an eye you could be 100 years ahead of everyone else, and you didn't even notice.

Ow! My head is starting to hurt...

The many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics:

A near-infinitude of parallel universes are created every instant by the probabilitic nature of quantum mechanics. That is, at its most fundamental level every particle in the universe have, rather than definitive parameters (momentum/position) describing them, a range of possible parameters described by a probability function. When these parameters are measured by an observer, the particle apparently "selects" parameters based on the probability function. There is absolutely no reason for it to select one specific parameter over another, it is random. However, there is an alternate interpretation: instead of choosing only one parameter, it chose all of them, creating a vast number of alternate universes, all of which actually exist outside our own. Similarly every quantum-mechanical probability contraction (such as an observation) in the universe also creates a vast number of universes for all possibilities, resulting in a near-infinitude of universes geing generated every instant.

However, since an observer can only exist in one universe at a time, we see only one universe, even though we are constantly thrown down these branching pathways. Other universes have other versions of ourselves that similiarly experience only their own universe.

Because every quantum-mechanical possibility has its own universe, every universe that could possibly exist within the laws of science exists somewhere. For example, a universe exactly like our own except the human race is lorded over by flying, talking dogs with silicon brains exists in a separate timeline.

This is actually a leading philosophical interpretation of quantum mechanics. The only other one I know of, the Copenhagen interpretation, involves living-dead cats and other problems.

I believe human beings are a disease. (believed this before the matrix)

We have minds and heightened awareness that is defined by our own reason. We are generally self-serving and selfish as a people.

Even the trash we pick up, that we have made, is only to make us feel better about not killing the animals, or not having trash blowing around our cities. Our cities and towns litter the land anyway and drive the animals into exile.

We procreate and expand at an increadibly high rate. Higher than any other mammal. We eagerly devour our food sources and our energy sources. We stop at nothing for the advancement of our colonies even at the expense of the colonies of our brethren.

We want our economies to soar, our cars to be better built (or to have cars if we are third world), our food amounts to expand and taste better, our worries and troubles to disappear like dirt under the carpet... all while feeding our insatiable greed.

I am going to start a poll in a new thread about this....

Here is my grand theory of lots of things that are unnamed because i have yet to list them all:

Things don't exist when you don't see them. You are the center of the universe, and no one else matters because they don't really exist as far as you are concerned. You have no reason to believe that they exist. Even though this is true, people still are nice to each other because they are humans and have humanity, wich intrinsically makes them want to help each other because they percieve that the others have humanity as well as them, and when they are vulnerable, their humanity is shown brazen and this draws a helping hand.

Everything that you sense, you destroy. As soon as you sense something, you destroy what it really is and create a perception of it that is not completely true or is completely false. This is because once you sense something you jump to hundreds of conclusions involving not only complex ideas, but simple ones, such as "this wall is white", well, the wall isn't white. These conclusions that are jumped to create a new object in the place of the old object. This new object takes on the properties that you placed on the old one. This goes down to the deepest and most hidden parts of everything. Everything is open to interpretation, and the interpretation is the destruction of the actual idea or object. An idea or object cannot be sensed in it's pure form, because of the aforementioned preconceptions and conclusions. Everything we know is wrong, in short, but, since everything is wrong, nothing is right. Because humanity naturally takes the positive for granted, we believe that everything is all right, instead of being all wrong, although they are, in a way the same.
