It can also screw up your OS. When someone cracks code, they never get it right. Something will fall apart. I recently downloaded a cracked winDVD and it killed the sound on my OS.

Going to have to do a re-install after I back up my documents in the next day or two.

You are using XP aren't you? Just wondering, what would happen if a corrupt installation occured of a commerical product unsupported by Microsoft after you had activated it? They may not let you reactivate your copy of XP.

No, I don't have XP. I have Win2k. As far as product activation goes. Once the software is activated it can only be used by that computer. You can re-install as many times as you want, but only on the computer that it was activated on. That's my understanding anyway.

As far as I can see..... If its releasd into the world then within time it will be hacked.

Ive seen hundreds of little password creators and patches. Usually they are written by some ASM god with a name like Zanthorion or xeiionn or something weird like that.

I think M$ are just targetting easier targets like people who dont understand computers too much and would not be comfortable applying cracks/patches. With all the other distros you only needed a cd key, I guess this one will be more involved......

    Time will tell....

I'm happy with 2k for now.....

lucky... Yeah, i had a friend working in some big corporate office and I guess big companies get Windows software without all the product registration limitation muck (makes sense since big companies need to install the software on several terminals); hmm i wonder if they are currently installing XP professional? Bah... or i could just pay a measily 100 u.s. for an upgrade copy (but that would only be the home edition i believe?).

You have to be very careful with XP, because one false move
can make your C: drive unbootable. The only way you would be able to access your hd is with a rescue disk, and I'm not even
sure you could use a Win 2k Pro rescue disk to save an XP
installation gone bad. But it sounds likely you could. But then
again a Win 2k Pro rescue disk might allow you a console peek
at your hd, but I seriously doubt that you would be able to
reinstall Win 2k or Millenium or anything under those on top
of a failed XP installation. There would be some major file
tweaking in store--and a big headache, to boot (pun not intended).

tnt wins the prize...these cd's are out there. microsoft will never win this war. It's a futile as the war on drugs. There's a million chinese working on cracking XP as we speak if they haven't done it already.

i paid for my copy however...
