    New Graphics card! w00t!

Well I got a good deal on a graphics card. See, I bought a MSI GeForce FX 5200 w/128MB VRAM - AGP 8x, a remote control, built in TV tuner, dual display with two VGA monitors or one VGA monitor and one DVI-I monitor, stereo rendering, kickass custom fan with RPM control, TV out through S-Video OR RCA Out, 10 full games (Morrowind, Ghost Recon, Oni, Serious Sam 2, Duke Nukem - Manhattan Project, Beam Breakers, Rally Sport Challenge, The Sum of All Fears, Zax: The Alien Hunter) plus a disc with 7 demos of games, plus 10 utility discs with stuff for RAM management, overclocking, monitor calibration, graphics card clock speed modifiers (for both memory and core clock), and some more stuff.

It might not be the best card in the world, but I'm happy with it, and I didn't have to pay a cent for it. My dad bought it for me. Plus, I can sell my old card for $50. My dad said he would spend up to $100 dollars, so I figured this would be the best card I could get for that much. The card was actually $125, but I talked him into the extra $25 because I told him we wouldn't need to buy a DVD player now.

Oh dear.... What was your old card?

You did get a lot of stuff with it, but the focus point (the card itself) is a major loser. The FX5200 is worse than the GeForce 4 MX's and even the GeForce 2's in some cases... Hope you don't like playing games that require good vid cards.

The only good thing is that you didn't pay for it yourself

I would suggest avoiding the $50 card from Hauppauge called WinTV. It's a seperate TV-tuner card, it's not on a video card...but it kinda sucks. Max res is 640*480 (you can go fullscreen though)...sound is done with a cable from the card to your soundcard (into the mic port)...except I have a high-pitched whine in the background when I play VHS tapes off the VCR I have connected to it, so there are some issues there. Video capture off the TV...nice idea, but it blows. Saves as .avi, so it's huge, and it drops a lot of frames. User interface on the software...might blow even more than the video capture.
    Away.

Bull crap dude, the GeForce FX 5200 is usually just as fast or faster as the fastest GeForce 4 Ti cards. Trust me, I looked around A LOT as soon as I heard the GeForce FX was going to be mass produced and not limited to studios.

You must be insane. The G2's MX was the only good series of MX's, the G4's are their lowest quality of crap, that means lower than just crap. trust me, FX will kill G4's MX series. lol, the G2's MX series probably kicks the G4's ass!

Oi, I would post up some proof but I don't want to right this second. Trust me, the FX5200 (NON ULTRA) sucks badly. If you want to find out more on your own, without me having to go off and find proof to backup my claims, I point you in this direction: Future Mark forums.

Heh, I ran across a thread today at Futuremark showing off a pretty complete vid card compare.

Here's how some of them stacked up at 3DMark 2k1:

The GFF5200 Ultra scored 9715 marks in 3DMark2K1
    Normal GFFX5200 scored 7994
    The Inno 3D GFFX5200 64bit DDR scored 5395
    GF4MX440 got 6683 marks
    Gf4MX440SE 128bit DDR got 5820marks
    GF4MX440SE 64bit DDR128bit SDR got 3100 marks
    R9000Pro 128MB got 8374 marks
    R9500NP 128MB got 10363marks

This is a 2k1 compare, so I'm sure 2k3 would be drastically different. I just can't imagine the FX cards not wasting the GF4 cards, but I could be wrong. But there's how they stack up in 2k1. I guess it depends on the bus a TON. The 64 bit FX5200 is just a joke, losing horibly to all cards except the 64 bit GF4 MX. I'm impressed that the FX5200 ultra gets that close to the 9500, but a modded 9500 would kill it, as would a regular 9500 Pro.
