when you are about as likely to be attacked as Canada is,
Who would ever bother? Someone else was always there holding there hands during the few conflicts they were in, so it’s not like there an important figure. They have no real great accomplishments; they have had a lot of progress for the world but nothing that great. Plus it’s amazing how many people like you when you kiss everyone’s ass and complain to the same people.

They haven't been attacked for goodness knows how long so why bother getting involved in the bloody reality of a war
Do you prefer that ever country waits to be attack, that ever country figures that maybe they will change their minds? Don’t you think it will get bloodier if they wait?

    >>Who would ever bother?<<

    That is precisely my point.

You seem to have this bizaare logic that being all powerful and crushing your enemies makes you the perfect nation. In my opinion, if you can achieve the wealth and standard of living that Canada has achieved without incurring the hatred and wrath of others then that is by far the best way to be.

And I really don't understand what you mean by them having their hands held in conflict. On June 6th 1944 there were Canadians landing at Normandy along side our men. They didn't have to be there, it wasn't their war. But we were grateful for what they did.

    >>They have no real great accomplishments<<

You mean they have never obliterated another nation, or had an empire. I don't see that the achievements of a country should be measured solely on the amount of destruction they have dished out. Canada has achieved a lot of things. Wealth, integration, education and the best hockey teams in the world for starters.

I am Canadian. I don't like the fact that we may not spend as much money on Military because our unorganized government has hard times keeping track of it . However, you cannot support your other comments based on Canada, I promise you. You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Perhaps I should ask you what the U.S. has ever done thats great, but you would just reply that Americans invented everything in the world cause their so great, smart, and powerful. Hmm, so maybe the fact that the U.S. has been hiring our citizens to do work in America is just fair game? (You americans being smart again?) No, the U.S. has been hiring our teachers, scientists, doctors, and engineers for a long time now, but I suppose that we can't give credit to Canadians for any of the U.S.'s accomplishments because we all know that Canadians are just stupid people who live in Igloos. It may also be a shock to you, but Thomas Alva Edison purchased the patent to the lightbulb from Henry Woodward and Matthew Evans. Oh, and what else did we do? We burnt down your white house (I suppose that makes us terrorists doesn't it!? Oh no!). And since we are in a programming forum, I may as well bring it up since you think so highly of American accomplishments, I suppose that you think that all technology in this world is just a shadow of your own.

No, the perfect nation would be one with some balls. One that actually stands up for something once in awhile. Security first, economy second. Like I said before a good economy means nothing in a nuclear holocaust.

And about everything made by an American crack, at least it has some truth to it. When was Canada ever a super power? When did they create the internet? A lot of advancements have come from Americans. Even the people from other countries that invented stuff came here to become Americans. We never invented it all, but we have a much bigger chunk.

By the way, can any Canadian talk a little about how the country was founded? Every body knows American us vs. Britain, what did the Canadians do? I’m just wondering since you never hear about this kind of stuff.

The internet was not created by the U.S.
First: The internet is World Wide, which takes the cooperation of all countries which it exists in.
Second: France and Japan have just as big of a part in the internet as you. Perhaps looking up the World Wide Web Consortium will enlighten you on the topic.
Third: The WWW was created by Tim Berners-Lee born in London, England, June-5-1955.

Perhaps you got confused when you heard that there were studies and applications of the internet @ MIT and other institutes in the U.S. but it does not mean that any ONE country created it.

Why would you laugh at our wealth and standard of living? Do you see yourself as more superior than your neighbors? Are you that much more successful? Is your quality of life so much better? No, it isn't. Your currency may be worth more, but our citizens live JUST the same as others do in the U.S. We all have the same products, medicines, technology, and jobs available to us.

So you don't know how we are founded, yet you can make comments about us never accomplishing anything? Do a Google search on Canadian History. Perhaps then you will find interesting topics such as the Avro Arrow.

The internet, aka the Arpanet is American. It was made by our department of Defense for the military. Just like the 4 major servers are still in the US (2 in CA, 1 NY, and the other somewhere in the middle. No idea what state).

The Internet is not Arpanet. Arpanet was a network used by military computer systems. It was first used at UCLA and Stanford. The Arpanet used TCP/IP, and developed FTP and email protocols and started with 10 computers. It does not mean that they are the founders, but I can agree that it was a contribution.

Uhh, arpanet is the internet -- it was the first building blocks... the "internet" was fully funded by the US govt. until it grew and has boomed into it's own medium - it was a scientific/military asset long before it surved porn to millions.

Today we see that GPS, a US military technology, primarily funded by the US govt. has grown into it's own industry as it is built into cell phones and the like...

    >>But you do know that most european countries need to protect american property from terrorist attacks, not their own ? Terrorists will not come to europe bombing a french restaurant or a german marketplace. They will bomb an american embassy or military base. I'm not afraid when I'm at the town hall... I'm afraid when I'm near an american building.

Yes, so why don't you stop protecting our property so we can pull out all of our investments from your country -- and I guess it's americans who work in that german mcdonald's also. It's quite clear that the terrorists will kill 50 germanz or whoever to get 10 americans. If u wanna whine about how u must protect your own b/c of american interests in your land - then boot us out... it doesn't bother me one bit.

We don't stop because *gasp* you asked us to do so. If I'm correct, you can pull your investments ( military bases ) out whenever you like. Or are you afraid a german policeman may not let an american tank company out of the country ?
As far as I know your guess as always is dead wrong, there isn't a single american working at those McDonalds I've been to regularly ( about 4 ). There isn't even a single native english speaker as far as I could tell. I'm not whining. I'm just pointing out your mistakes.

Oh, and btw.: the internet is nice, but we would be well alive without. Maybe America created some things that are really worth mentioning. America had the first man on the moon for example. Internet is kids pay. Nice, helpful, but not exactly an accomplishment that would save the world.

Hmmm, if Europe did something with it we would probably have internet day. Yes the internet definitely one of the biggest accomplishments known to mankind. It changed everything and created a lot on its own. Most of humanities achievements are American.

No they aren't. You are forgetting that America is a relatively young civilisation. For thousands of years, other civilisations were advancing the world in the area of science.

    >>Yes the internet definitely one of the biggest accomplishments known to mankind.<<

When compared to inventions such as the electricity generator for example, the internet is insignificant.

    • First man on the moon
    • GPS

i bet we had alot to do with other things to, this is just off the top of my head. im sure theres alot of little things that have been done by other countries but the only big ones really seem to be math and the idea that science and religion shouldnt be the same.
and even then were are a new nation, guess were we came from everywhere!!!!

You see the thing is that you are assuming that because those inventions came in the last 50 or so years that they must be superior. That's a ridiculous idea. All but the last two would be works of fiction if the electricity generator had never been invented.

Before America came to the forfront of technological advancement, many civilisations pioneered science. The idea that all important inventions came in the last 50 or so years is proposterous.

name some things and their countries then.

writing is important, but alot of civilizations came up with their own.
science is important, but alot of the early stuff coulnt go against their religion so alot was just wrong.

math and logical science are to of the biggest achievements of the ancient world. thats what really shaped every thing.

plus i think the internet and nuclear technology beats alot of things. just like going to the moon, it needed science and math but it still tops the list.
