WinXP Upgrade Doesn't Make Any Sense

With product activation, WinXP upgrade makes absolutely no sense what so ever. You have to buy the full version. Infact you have to buy a new computer. I don't understand how they can sell these things. WinXP is not compatable with most hardware. How can you buy an upgrade?

...and if your having trouble with clones then I'm not going to stand a chance with XP...both of my pcs were assembled by me from parts bought/salvaged/pilfered from wherever I could find.
