Thread: A book on hacking...

*MODS* I'm not asking anything against the rules!

I'm looking for a book where a hacker/cracker from old talks about his experiences with hacking. Not a tutorial or anything, but a book where somebody actually describes what they did to places, and why. I think it would make a killer story. Has anyone seen anything like that?

Yea there are several out there. The Kevin Mitnick one (SP).
Confessions of a Teanage Hacker is another one. I have not read either of them. Personaly I think Kevin is a loser, and if he was as good a cracker as he wants everyone to think he would not have gotten caught.

I hope you arn't talking about the Art of Deception. I started reading that book and it blows. He says the same damn thing 20 times in a single chapter.

I'm not sure what Chris wanted, since he's on my ignore list (hi Chris!), but the Mitnick book is on social engineering and how to protect yourself, (but mainly) your company from it.

True about the Art of Deception.
Chris I would say go to your local book store and look in the computer security section.. there are severl books out there.
All of the books on the personaly of "hackers" are pretty lame IMHO. Ive looked at a couple of them but never got one. I think cracking servers for fun and defacing web=pages is best left to AOhell script kiddiez.

I thought I was on your ignore list you tool. Have you ever heard of reading for pleasure? Have you not gotten there in HS yet? :uh: And like I said before, I'm not looking for tutorials. I'm looking for interesting reading material.

if you are looking for some good chalanging readign material then I would recomend that you read the hackers chalanges, and try to solve them. ITs really a good book considering they are using real data, ip's and names have been changed but thats it.

That said, I liked the Art of Deception. Steal the Computer Book 2's a neat little history lesson, if nothing else.
