    Downloadable Graphics Program

Does anybody know of a free-for-download professional-grade graphic design program? It's for web design, and preferably one that does transparent colors.

blender comes to mind for 3d stuff. You might not be looking for that though. I don't know about a free photoshop type program.

The GIMP is basically freeware PS.
Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah

Paint Shop Pro is a 30-day free trial from www.jasc.com (or something)
Also, there's The GIMP (Has there been a version ported to windows?)

Well I had a look on CNet, and they had the professional, registered Paint Shop Pro - for download. Pretty big though... and I'll consider those other ones. Thanks people...

The GIMP is completely awesome. Has a lot of Photoshop features (in fact, it looks almost exactly the same) and it's FREE! The only thing I don't like is it doesn't have all the filters I used to use in Photoshop. Oh well, The GIMP has enough to keep me happy while I'm using Linux.

They have good compression for things with few colors and large blocks of the same color, such as is frequently seen online?

Anyway, Paint Shop Pro is easy to learn and use, and transparent stuff is easy...I like it more than Photoshop when I'm doing something simple...probably partly because there is so much to Photoshop that I can barely use it and don't know what most of the features do.
    Away.
