    www.AITDomains.com

I plan on registering a domain at www.aitdomains.com later tonight, but before I do, I want to make sure I have everything right.

Can I just sign up for a free web page somewhere, and then when registering for aitdomains I point the domain there? I've seen a lot of places offer domain registration, but they charge like 7 times as much per year. Do I have to transfer my domain to oneof these places?

As an example (although I will not actually use geocities). If I get one of those http://www.geocities.com/your-name web sites, which I pay nothing for, would I just register at aitdomains.com and enter that URL as my web page? Or would I need to transfer my domain to geocities, and pay them instead?

If I'm off the target completely, please tell me exactly what I need to know.

I don't know the company, but registering a domain should not be expensive. Hell, I live in Denmark where everything is expensive still, I only pay 80-90 kroner, ($10-$11), to register a ".dk" domain, then 50-60 kroner a year to keep it registered. I think ".com" etc. is more, but not hugely so. As always, I would expect things to be cheaper in the US.

Actually, I think the domain registry I use here, www.buydomains.dk), is a US firm because my billing comes from Florida.

With BuyDomains, after you've bought your name, you get a "Virtual Admin" page from their website where you can set up your IP addresses for http, ftp etc. Create e-mail addresses, (I think the first 3 are free, whatever, I've never paid for anything extra). You just point your domain name at your server IP and after a while, sometimes only minutes, (while the changes trickle through the DNS layer), away you go.

Wow... that registration fee is pretty low, but your annual fees are quite high. I just pay 8.50 a year.

My friend and I own (rent whatever: have) www.pagemac.com along with full subdomains for just 10 bucks a year. No registration fees or anything.

We just bought the name, the server is ours. So we get whatever stats we want on the server (unlimited bandwidth of course, etc). Speeds of downloads range from 40Kbps to 80 Kbps.

I just found another site (www.dnbuy.com - be careful you don't get www.dnbuy.net - they rip you off big time) that only charges 8.97 a year (nothing else), gives you 110 free @domain email addresses (forwarding!), URL framing, forwarding, cloacking, and masking, third level domains, and tonnes of other stuff. Then I'm hosted at www.livin4.com for free, unlimited bandwidth, support for CGI (most languages), PHP, ASL, the works, and 50MB of free space. It's awesome.

Umm... this is a quote directly from livin4.com's front page:

livin4.com is no longer offering our Free 50 Megabyte service due to a high amount of illegal activity in numerous accounts.
Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah
