What's the big deal about this thing? I think I heard the mortality of this disease is only about 3-4%.

This is only of concern to people who are weak, like those who are allergic to things.

Weak people and people who are allergic to things, of which there are millions on this planet.

The reason it's causing so much concern is that we can't cure it and we don't fully understand it. Until such a time that we can and do, we should consider it dangerous. Ok, it's not spreading with Bubonic Plague like speed, but until we understand it, who knows what it's capable of?

The mortality of the 1918 flu that killed over 20 million people had a mortality of 3-5%.

Low mortality doesn't matter, if your virus is highly contagious you still get large numbers killed, which is why it's right that health care officials are taking SARS seriously.

I agree. i understand that this is a very contagious disease, but people don;t usually die. they get better. i don;t understand why is this getting SO much media attension......only about 10 people died most older people or young children, whose immune systems are weak. Think about this, do u have anyidea of how many children die each year, ahh hell, forget about year, do u have anyidea how many children die each DAY just because of hunger??? 27000!!!! yeah.. that's the number compare that to 10!!!. then why the hell isn;t that getting .5 % of the media attention as this sars thing???? these people seriously make me sick.
oh i'm sorry! i didn;t realize my fist was rushing to meet ur face!

If you were infected then you would die to get attention so that a cure could be found....

These two people are dead wrong. I'm from of the Asian countries and although my country wasn't infected yet, many pre-caution has been done to prevent it from infecting us. Those two people with their opinion up there if were given as cup of water that has been drink by a SARS-infected person, I truely doubt they;ll have the guts to even touch it.

Please don't take this issue too lightly... Even Canada has reported a number of cases. Still remember a deadly virus struck the world somewhere back in the 80s? I remember someone told me than some few millions of people died from that.

If your country is not infected yet, please don't laugh at other people and say they have alergics or weak or what so ever. If you were too be infected, you wouldn't want anybody to say like that to you.

Thanks for the compliment vasanth. It's just that watching people die out of nothing is something that is hard to cope. It's sad to see when people get infected and there's no cure, just waiting for their time to die.

Only some people who dicovered their infections early have a slight chance to recover by suffering from steroids and other kind of pain-killers drugs...

WEll, for all the guys in this topic. We are not seeing the kids die from hunger everyday. But we did our best try to help as much as we can. One can't do anything but if the whole world do together.
At least we can come out something. what i mention here is.....
if all the human race is this world know about love, sympathy and non-violence. i think the ppl in this earth lives much more happier.

For this SARS. we are not trying to tell ppl that 5 death is a very big news to tell all the ppl in the worlds. But if the disease have the pontential to grow or become a dangerous virus. What shall we do? As for the scientic, they are not really fully understand the virus yet. They still not finding the place where the virus spread. They need to find the main cause of it.

Just love all the ppl around u....... do have sympathy and kind to the ppl around u and u will be more happier.

    ppl got me completely wrong

and why the hell would i touch a drinking cup that a sars infected person drank from?? where exactly r u trying to go with this???

all i said was that this is getting too much media attension. it;s bad and misleading. I've heard that people, afterwatching the news and reading the newspaper, calling the asian community centers and offices and swearing at em becuase the virus came from there. what else can u expect when the whole newspaper is filled with 200 font titles like "10 people dead" and "confirmed form southeast asia" everyday!!!

    >>Please don't take this issue too lightly... Even Canada has reported a number of cases.<<
actually canada has a lot more then just a few cases of sars and i do take the issue seriously, just not as seriously as waring a mask infornt of all asian people. don;t get me wrong here, but i hate overreaction and YES i do thing some people are overreacting at this point

I believe the attention that the media gave is appropriate and not considered too much. If the media don't give much attention to it, how would the world be warned to take appropriate pre-cautions?

What the media doind now is correct because we all need to know the current situation. Although no one knows how exactly the virus, yet, we still need to know how fast it's spreading. We need to know whether or not it has any potential to spread to our own country and how to counter it.

Nobody wants any spreading of virus to be hidden from ourselves.
