    working out...

What items/places/routines do you use for working out? Does anyone have a punching bag? If so do you find it useful?

Me, I have a weight bench, but I don't use it enough. Once in a while I will go to the gym. I used to have weight training at school last year, and I got into working out big time. This past year I haven't had as much time nor energy. However, I'm wanting to start working out a lot more again. Except now I don't have the luxury of being able to work out at school like I used to be able to. Not to mention that I don't have the motivation that I used to have. I'm thinking about getting a punching bag, because that seems like a good work out.

I used to box so I have a punching bag and I think it's a great workout for your back, arms etc. If you do decide to get one, make sure you have a good spot set up to hang it, and make sure you get bag gloves and hand wraps. I can't emphasize that enough, you need to use both when you hit the bag, because after a while your hands can get messed up. Bag gloves are like the gloves boxers use but alot smaller, they have metal bar inside them that your hand wraps around and their usually made of leather. These
are almost identical to the ones I have, and there great.

Bench is another great workout, between that and the bag if you throw in lots of movement while hitting the bag you will get a great workout not only physically but mentally. If you get tired of benching never underestimate the power of pushups. Running is also good but if you throw in lots of movement while hitting the bag you really don't need to run, unless of course you want to get into boxing

Edit - Another thing you might consider is going to your local boxing gym. There is nothing like getting in the ring and duking it out with someone. Not only is it probably the most intense training you can go through but it makes you aware that boxing is so much more than just two guys throwing punches, it's an art. Im a HUGE boxing fan btw lol

I try to go two days a week. One day's back and biceps, the other day's shoulders and triceps. Sometimes I'll do a leg day. Other than that, I try to keep in shape by running and sports.

The only thing my mouse has given me is CTS.

I usually go to the gym 5-6 times a week, exercise one muscle per day. Lately though, with school and hockey it's hard to find time and energy.

I wouldn't suggest getting a punching bag, you a) Probably don't know how to use it properly b) Get bored of it. I think you should get some free weights and if you don't already have one, a bench. You can do A LOT of different exercises with free weights... so if you begin to dislike one then switch to another.

    Silvercord, it's called multi-tasking

SC, thanks for the info. I doubt I'll go as far as going down to a boxing gym, but I am going to try to get a punching bag within the next month or so.

Eibro, I have weights, but I don't feel like lifting as my sole exercise. A punching bag will give me a different excersise to do on top of the lifting. I can always run down to the park (the best one closest to me is only like 1/2 mile) and play some basketball, as well, though.

When I'm not doing any other sport, I hit the gym twice, sometimes three times a week for an hour or so. Right now, we are still in badminton season, and that is much more fun, so I tend to go there instead.
