Thread: Programmers Attititudes

Even the best programmers on the planet were born as babies knowing nothing about computers, the knowldege they have has nearly always been as a result of help from those of us who are more advanced passing on our knowledge.

However I have noticed in the last month that some people seem intent on keeping what they know to themselves then giving attitude such as "Ha Ha, I know how to do it, and you dont so tough luck".

Please can the minority of unhelpfull people who are this way inclined remember that one day they may need my help. So stop being so damn selfish. Arrogance and Selfishness will not get you ver far.

I may not know what you know yet, but I'll try that much harder to be better than you and one day I will be. By not helping me I may one day get your job.

YOU TOTAL LOOSERS (The people this is too know who they are).

A big thankyou to those people who have helped me in the past.

sometimes people also post completely incoherent posts that take up way tooo much space, they don't do any work on their own, and they think that someone will just do everything for them.

those are the people that shoul dbe banned from the world.

At least learn something about programming before you come to the boards and post a topic "How do i program?"...

people should get off of their fat hind quarters and do some damn research before they come posting completely stupid questions that they could find the anser to in a minute if they'd just look.

we go to the house of the offending junior member and flog him until he either dies or never comes back to the board again.

Flogging is a really messy proccess. I would recommend a good chinese water torture. After about a month of that water dripping on your forehead supposidly the "subject" will have a little indentation where the water hit and most of the time they go insane.

I think, more often than not, the problem comes from people asking questions without even making an attempt at learning on their own.

Yes, I know C/C++, but I can't take the time to explain the entire language to someone. It took me months, and several books, to learn what I now know. Some people's questions are just so massive in scope that to answer them would take ages.

Many questions are answered on almost a daily basis, and a quick use of the search would yield the answers.

Many other questions are widely asked, and have answers which could be found in 30 seconds using Google.

Others are homework assignments where the person won't even make the token attempt to do their own work, instead asking for an ENTIRE PROGRAM to be written to their specifications.

And some people want their errors fixed but provide so little information that you'd have to be psychic to know what they need to change.

99.9% of people on the boards have no problems at all with answering 99% of the questions that people ask. But people who want someone else to do all their work, people who haven't even attempted to research the problem themselves, people who ask the same questions we see every day, or people who want vast amounts of information explained to them make posters not want to answer them.

All in all, everyone here is a volunteer, and all answers are provided simply out of the kindness of our hearts. If you get any answer at all to a question you pose, you should be thankful.

Now, I don't recall any questions of yours, so I can't say if you did any of the above "no-no"s, but mostly everyone is quite helpful if the questions are formulated in the proper fashions. I haven't seen a lot of arrogance, nor a lot of selfishness. Usually if questions are good, but unanswered, it's either because the answer would be very long and complex, or that nobody else has much experience with what you're trying to do.

It's actually a little uncomfortable to see the question you have to solve every thay you do programming, but I normally answer these questions, I've never said that I'm better than somebody else

umm... a month of dripping water? do you know how much water that would waste?

Besides you could recycle the water the dripped off.

Garbage. I'm a good programmer and I could qualify to be A+ Cert.

A 6 year old with Down's syndrome could be A+ cert. It's apparently not that hard, considering the number of A+ cert people I know who are complete and utter morons.

Of course, I know someone who's going into Comp Sci (and has made it 3 years through the program) without knowing even the most basic things about computer architecture (i.e. no concept of RAM vs. hard disk space).

You don't think I know morons who are A+ cert? I've worked with some, and quite frankly I'm amazed they have the intellectual power to dress themselves.

I'm not saying all A+ cert peeps are idiots, just that A+ cert, in itself, is no proof of knowledge.

And it's not just me -- ask anyone who's done tech support. A+/MSCE are certainly things you need to have to be hired, but apparently some pretty dumb people get them, because every person who has ever been in tech support has a thousand stories about the dumb guy(s) at their work.
