thats the whole problem though, women want equality, they want to be able to fight but then expect not to ever have to go into combat, i'll tell you what, im not a very big guy myself, and if i ever ran up on a guy in a hand to hand situation, it wouldnt end well for me, so why should a women get special treatment because "she isnt as strong as a man"

Sadly, women are at a higher risk for rape any day at any place. This is not a very strong argument in this discussion.

Women and men should have equal opportunities. However, whatever we write into our books of law, the two sexes will always be different. They had 10.000.000 years to evolve into two very different types of humans. Hunters, killers, providing food by using physical and spacial abilities and gatherers, looking for food nearby, nurturing children and social contacts. If we pass laws to make them equal, I'm pretty sure we will be equal in another 10.000.000 years. Until then we have to live with the differences.

Our society values performance. And if the average man can perform better in a job than the average woman, then there will be more men then women working in this area. Obviously, this also functions the other way round.

Males and females are different, that is how we evolved and the world works for now. Sometimes I get the feeling that women do want equal rights, but not equal duties. Example from Germany:

We have compulsory service. Every male has to join the military for a year after school. Women could volunteer to join the medical corps. Noone would complain, it was perceived as something natural: Men have to do military service, women have to bear childs... the world isn't equal and probably not fair.

Two years ago, a woman sued the state to let her do service in the normal units, too. In the name of equality, women should be able to do the same things men do. The court ruled that women must be allowed into any rank and unit.

So we now have an "equal" situation of
- men being forced to join the army for a year
- women being able to chose if they would like to join

Feminists call this equal rights. I guess feminists have a problem with simple math and logic or with the concept of rights and duties. These are equal rights... but not equal duties.

As long as feminism means fighting for equal rights, not equality ( rights and duties ) I think it's more of a female egoism movement. Thats fine, we have enough male counterparts, but at least they don't claim moral high ground.

I have met enough women, who don't want to be "equal". Most want to be treated with the same respect and have the same chances under the same conditions. None of them would call a test based on performance unfair, even if, like physical test, men are better on the average.

I have met some who wanted to be equal at all costs. When I asked them if they wanted compulsory service for women, most stared at me in disbelief and told me that this was something totally different. Well, those are the people I call hypocrits. Equality means both sexes get the same. You want more rights without duties for your own egoistic point of view ? Well, you can try. In the meantime, go ahead, do my dishes, because I will be egoistic, too. And as a man, I'm damn good at it


I guess wars would best be fought with an all volunteer male and female army. If a country cannot muster enough volunteers, then it shouldn't go to war in the first place.
