    Benched 185Lbs For 5 Reps

I have not done weights for a couple years. I have my Olympic weight bench set up in my new place. Did 5 workouts since I moved in. Today I bench pressed 185lbs olympic free weights for 5 reps. I want to work up to 225lbs for reps, than that is good enough. Only problem now is that I can't stop shaking. I'm out of shape!

Well, I know how to train because I did track and boxing for 2 years. I haven't worked out since I started College. I gained about 18 pounds. I just finished working out this morning. Not just bench press but also arm curls, chin ups, leg exercises, etc. I actually started to feel sick afterward and had to lie down on the floor for about 5 minutes. It was tough to even keep my eyes open. I feel great now though. Totally recharged. Wonder how much I can bench press if I keep this up. But the real reason I work out is because I am getting fat, and I'm still a young. Health is important.

Crud, now I feel bad that I haven't worked out since school started, I don't think. I used to do a lot, too...I never tested out my max, but I'm sure it wasn't anything small. Good job on forcing yourself to work out again...maybe I've figured out what I'm gonna do tonight...thanks for the idea.

OK, I just have a question:

lifting weights helps you program better?

I mean, if it does, I should start right now

well, since programming IS life.. i guess lifting weights really isn't neccessary. sooner or later the material body will be worthless, though

Yes it will, in an indirect sort of way. First and formost, strenuous exercise is a way to clear one's mind, leaving it open to whatever intentions he might have. Second, contrary to some opinions,
a strenuous workout before one attempts any task revives a
persons energy and ability to perform that task.

If you want to prove this to yourself, just run five miles before
a programming session and see if that jog dosen't put you in a
better frame of mind to do what you want to do. Whether it's
a five mile jog, weight lifting, or whatever, your mental and physical processes will be at a higher level after exercising.

I think that if I run 5 miles before programming, I'll be really tired and I wouldnt want to program, but I'll try it tomorrow.

and yes, the material body dies, when I transcend (leave the body here on earth), I can do programming without a body.

What Rick said is exactly right. After I work out, even the next day, my mind is calm and I can better concentrate on work.

Out of first-hand I can vouch for rick. I happen to be a cross country runner for my highschool team (where do you think I get all the chicks) and I run everyday. When I'm done with a good 8 mile (on average) workout, I'm clearly thinking and ready to program the night away.

I will attempt 205 lbs free weights tomorrow. I have to get ready for my security guard job. I should probably be able to handle 225 lbs, if not 265 lbs. That might take a few months. BTW no steroids!
