    .NET and all that Jazz

So I'm bored and feel like learning a new language or API or something soon. I have VC++.net and I don't feel like buying a new compiler, so is anybody using "Managed C++" and if so are there any resources.. Google turned up info on VC++ 2003 and little tutorials on replacing ATL code with Winforms.. so perhaps that's all there is to C++.NET.

(I posted this in general discussions because stuff like this is likely to take a few turns and really didn't fit in C++/C#/Windows IMO, sorry if i'm wrong posting here)

edit: I am not in any way implying that I think VC++.net is only a .net compiler, I have been using it since it's release for non-managed C++, I'm just asking about managed C++.

Dude, there is so much more to the .NET Framework than just WinForms. Look at your documentation. Look at all those namespaces under System.*. Then download the DirectX 9.0 SDK if you're feeling for some games.

.NET is a platform, like Java.

I'm aware that there is more, I'm looking for tutorials on it.. all the .NET stuff out there seems to be VB.net or C#.net.. I'm wondering if a lot of people use C++.net and if so where there are resources.

VC7 has no Visual Designer for Winforms, so Managed C++ is somewhat neglected for now. VC2003 will have one, the final beta has been around for months and it rocks. Expect to see some tutorials as soon as the Release hits the shelves.

Managed C++ is not much faster than any other .NET Language, but is more complex due to the nature of C++ and about 10 new keywords for .NET. The preferred .NET language is C#.

Hey any idea what the upgrade cost will be? I spent half an hour on Microsoft.com reading about features, and why I should get it, etc.. but I couldn't find any upgrade info.
