Talking Mr. Hill's Programming Class Post Here

A good programmer is not a person who knows everything. That is impossible. A good programmer, however, knows where to look to FIND the solution to a problem. That solution may be found in a reference book, previous code examples, etc. That solution may also come from a programming community like this one.

For this reason, my first quarter students have been assigned to register for certain programming message boards, use the search feature to find my thread, and post there to show that they found it.

Thank you kindly for the quick response. I've passed your info on to my class. (Most msgboards I hang out on require registration).

Wouldn't it make more sense for them to find you on one of the programming boards? Unless you're programming backflips on ATVs or pro-anti Iraq war opinions.

lmfao. No i see why he did it here, because of the content of the post it was general, it technically would be mis-posted spam in a c++ forum. Why not post in c++ sections a problem for them to solve?

You're presuming they're learning C++, which may not be the case..

I'd suggest some reading needs to be done, like the guidelines and FAQs, with the first test being how to ask a smart question and use code tags.

[edit]
Oh yeah, welcome to the forums, too
When all else fails, read the instructions.
If you're posting code, use code tags:
/* insert code here */
Hi guys,

I'm glad to see there are people out there who know that learning to search for answers is more important than learning a bunch of semi-useful facts.

Look at my signature and follow the "smart questions" link to get a basic understanding of programming messageboards We can get somewhat harsh at times, but it's just they way internet communication works.

And the most important part: have fun !

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
Then ask a smart question.
