So, there is someone toting a gun coming to your home shooting at people, bombing your cities and it's inhumane to ask him why he did this on public tv ? Thats ridiculous. There is a single reason US leadership doesn't want these pictures to be shown: Last time this happened, (Somalia) moral faltered and US troops were abadoning the mission and retreated home in weeks.

It is not ridiculous. The interviewers know why the soldiers are
there. It's not like this war was a surprise. The POWs are put on
television as a way for the Iraqi Government to show their
"trophies." They're trying to humilate them.

There's no possible way you could know that to be fact. Even the
ICRC has said that Iraq's display of these POWs is against the
Geneva Conventions. And yes, the US media has aired pictures of
Iraqi POWs, but not in a way that's even close to what Iraq has
done. There have been no interviews, not even a close-up. The
images weren't even taken by our Government, they were taken
by the media that's traveling with them.

The US troops aren't going to abandon their objective because
the American Media airs clips of its POWs...

“It is forbidden to expose prisoners of war to public curiosity…
and the essential thing is to make clear to all parties that PoWs
should not be exposed in any form,” said Jakob Kellenberger, the
    Swiss president of the ICRC.

So showing the war prisoners who violently entered sovereign state is unjustified? It is ridiculous to say that regardless what $$$$ed law says. And you don't mind that U.S attack on Iraq violated international law, Ethic? The law is only scrap of paper now. There is no law at all.

Well, invading a country without proper authorisation isn't actually a position to call for your enemy to abide laws.

And maybe those PoWs on Cuba would like to have some basic rights, too ? Just taking wild guesses...

This war is for a big part a media war. I heard on the news that in the US people see less than for example in Europe. And in Europe we see less than the Arab TV shows us. If I look at CNN I see different things then when looking at Al Jazeera or the Dutch or German television.

For example CNN and the Dutch television show me the crying family of the American prisoners of war and they show how the Americans, Brittish and Australian are doing in the war. Sometimes they even show me for minutes the sky above Bagdad and a commentator tells me that they are bombing somewhere above Iraq.

But they don't show me the crying families of killed Iraqi people which Al Jazeera shows. They don't show the dead bodies of Iraqi people on the streets.

Otherwise Al Jazeera doesn't show things which CNN and the Dutch television show me. The Dutch television is quite neutral, but fact is that it only has materials from the western stations. The Dutch stations have requested pictures and reports from Al Jazeera, but Al Jazeera wants a lot of money for it.

Most people here can watch Al Jazeera on TV, but since most here don't speak Arabic, they only can watch, not listen and understand.

In this war it is very hard to tell what is truth and what is not.

How does it look to houssein that part of our country is fighting him and another half is protesting the war.
    <<<

I know this was posted a few pages back but I wanted to respond in light of recent events:

how does it look to him that part of Saddam's country (the citizens of Basra) are helping the British and fighting against the troops he sent there.

I saw that the british are now targetting the Iraqi mortar positions which were firing on the people in Basra. If this is confirmed that would be major.

Holy crap... Would you have a link for that, by any chance, or is it just word of mouth?

I'm not defending the war. I'm not defending the US.... Personally,
I don' t think the US had good reason to invade. And as I said in
the Michael Moore thread, if anything good comes from this war,
it may be nothing more than a fortunate side-effect of Bush's real
    agenda...

But those statements quoted are blantant attempts at trying to
justify what Iraq is doing. You're defending Iraq for breaking
these laws. You know, it is possible to admit that what they're
doing is wrong and still maintain your obvious "US is Satan"
opinions. Just because you don't agree with the US, doesn't
mean you have to defend Iraq every chance you get. I know you
people live closer to Iraq than me, but you don't need to be
afraid of Hussein. He won't hurt you; the US will protect you.

This debate about propaganda is mute.

The Iraq TV station has now been bombed so no more Iraqi footage will be forthcomming for a while.

Anyone notice we are not being given Coalition casualty figures only the Iraqi casualties?

    >>saw it on the TV, they say the info is comming from the pentagon, so im pretty sure its true,

From the Pentagon == from Donald Rumsfelt.

He started this by complaining the Iraqis were not abiding by the Geneva Convention (in showing footage of US POW's).

Rumsfelt seems to forget about the images of Iraqis being killed sent around the world live.
He forgets about the images of Iraqi POW's.

He also conveniently forgets about denying people from other countries the same rights as he gives US citizens. ie David Hicks as compared to John Lindt.

How can a place be staffed by US Navy personel, under US control in a hostile country (Cuba) and funded by US tax payers but NOT under US law? (as per the US Supreme Court ruling)

This is why we needed an international court. Pity the US passed the "Haig Invasion Act" and sqashed the IJC.

    >>heres a link to the "fact" that they have the uniforms:

This was an unconfirmed news report on the 7th March 2003. Well before the war started. IMHO just part of the pre war propaganda.
