    Foreign Investments

    My mutual fund didn't do very well. I have money in European markets. What is wrong with the East? Get your asses to work and make me some money!

    All of my stock holdings are with European utilities, and all but one is trading at just below their 52 week high. I don't know what you're holding, but perhaps a change of portfolio is called for.

    I have a high risk mutual fund based on foreign markets. I can't change it because according to statistics it will yield the highest return of all the portfolios. It's not just European but also Asian markets. It's a little bit discouraging to see a loss, but I will not withdraw the money. Actually what do I need money for? I just hope to be able too look into this fund twenty years from now and know that it worked out. I can tell you though that I'm going to open a new Guaranteed Investment Certificate rather than put new money into this mutual fund. Well perhaps a little new money but I seem to be loosing money all the time in this particular investment.

    >>> I have a high risk mutual fund based on foreign markets.

    Hmmm...

    >>> high risk

    ... hmmmmm.

    I'm not familiar with the Canadian market but, I am assuming a "mutual fund" is a managed portfolio where you have no control over the actual stock, but delegate that to an investment group who basically sell shares in their investment skills, and they trade the actual stocks. This being the case, they range from really unexciting steady plodders, to cutting edge sharks. If you have picked a high risk managed fund, the possibilities are big. Unfortunately, the possibilities are big in both directions. I would always advise a spread of exposure, a couple of high risk, high reward funds are great fun, but also a grounding of steady plodders covers the lean times.

    Yes, you said it right. They subsidiary group belonging to the bank that I deal with manages the portfolio. Basically my money has gone nowhere for three years, but since this is a long term high risk plan they say not to withdraw and that it will ultimately grow faster than the other plans. I don't think that the financial markets are doing too well lately anywhere in the world.
