Is anyone else noticing a trend here? Everyone has an uprate of 128kbps

    I myself am on 768kbps / 128kbps; but I could go to 1.5mbps / 128kbps from home DSL

    Then there's also cable which I can get 1mbit / 512kbps

Why oh why did I choose DSL? Oh yea, $20/mo

    WOW!

    You guys have it good!

I am still on dial up as I can't get cable or DSL. ISDN too expensive as you have to pay 'data' rates (ends up as $1000+ per month). Sat, even two way sat has too much lag for my real time apps, not to metion the huge install costs.

Here all ADSL is capped. That is you usually get charged for volume as well. The state teleco Telstra charges $150 per Gb and they charge for upload as well as download!

Here is one of the CHEAPEST companies
    http://www.iinet.net.au/products/bro...ome/index.html

only $80 per month for 6Gb peak/6Gb off peak at 256/128Kbit

They keep the uprate for biznisses, where I work we got cable but had to get biz cable - which was 128K/128K even, the speed sucked, and they were charging $70/month - when we complained we got bumped up to 256/256 which still aint S***.

........ed me off, but I got even by hounding them and making there Systems Engineer me walk thru the setup of our domains and servers - thanks for teaching me about DNS enrique - cheapest lesson I've ever had - it woulda cost me a couple hundred at school and nearly a grand at a tech school.

    Always get even.

Most operators here offer up to 2M/2M, a couple 4M/4M but I don't know anyone that has anything like that. With the congestion on the net anyway, having a screaming fast link to your local exchange is useless if the onward link is so busy it can't serve you.

I have the basic 128 up, 256 down, but I will probably shift to either 256/256 or 512/512 once I have my own server running satisfactorily.

I've got DSL here. Adtertised at 1.5/128, and we get 1.3/100, so im happy with it. We're paying 50$/month.

I want to steal my high school's internet somehow...1megabytes per second on fast sites in the morning. I downloaded a 650MB Linux ISO file in about 12 minutes(around 900KB/sec).

i quote my soon-to-be provider, comcast:

    1. Speed comparison is for downloads only and is compared to 640Kbps DSL. Maximum upstream speed: 128Kbps or 256Kbps depending on service. Actual speeds may vary and are not guaranteed. Many factors affect download speed.
