That's the worst page on the eyes I've ever read. From that message, it seems like Microsoft wants people that can work without a huge amount of direction.

I think that's a good article, I think people reading that will get a really good idea of what to expect when working with a large company (whether it be microsoft or some other corporation).

I've read lots of pages about people sharing their experiences with attempting to get a job there. They are all pretty much like that one. Except, usually more logic puzzles are asked. I do know a guy who got an internship there and he told me they made him derive, on a whiteboard, the 3D rotation matrices. I can only hope for things as simple as this. With my luck I will be asked to re-write malloc. I maybe trying to do this soon, if I try I will post my thoughts and comments on the event.

I find it quite odd that the interviews were so technical. I have never been for programming jobs but the jobs I have had (as an engineer) the interviewer assumes you are good technically by the grades on your CV. What they then try to find out is whether you will work well in their organisation and in particular within the team to which you will be assigned. Also of course there are job specific things like ability to communicate with clients etc. It seems like the interviewers didn't care whether the guy was a good team player or anything, as long as he could bash out code to their liking there and then. Just my thoughts.

me too! i hear a lot of programming jobs, not even for big companies are like that... and i dont even know why? i mean, i know they have to test your skills but handing someone a whiteboard and saying "write me a proof" doesnt prove anything, well, maybe that i havent done math in years! i understand the importance of math and logical thinking and i know that microsoft wants the best, but just because you can write down the right proof before me doesnt make you more cut out for the job.

Microsoft gives their prospective employees all sorts of puzzles.

My teacher had a student who got hired by MS, and another student who got a job interview there. Both of them were given all puzzles, and no coding questions at all!

A lot of companies are like that for programmers... actually!
