    learning ability...gone?

im a junior in high school and sometimes i wonder if the school system has finally taken a toll on my learning ability. it just seems like in alot of my classes i end up memorizing things just long enough to pass the quiz and then forget the majority of it. im taking lots of challenging classes this year but sometimes it dosent feel like im learning anything at all. i can't seem to get stuff to stick anymore. has anyone else noticed this?

I think it's your age. A lot of people go through this in high school and even college. For me I started learning again once I got OUT of college It's just a hormone thing I think. Just work through it for now. It's a pretty important time for you and your future.

I payed attention to school until 5th grade. My grades went from strait 98 level As to As and Bs because I pretty much thought to myself, screw this, wtf am I doing here. So I lost focus and my grades began to drop.
My teacher averaging zeros into my grade when I forgot homework two times in a week didn't help either.
I still have nightmares about her putting the zero in my grade, and then 5 minutes later, discovering one of the cheerleader, 4H-y type girls forgot her homework, let her off with a 100.
That's around when I quit school and started homeschooling. IT's soo sweet. I'm gonna be starting up highschool again next year though. It's a Magnet school, so it's only for the gifted kids. We'll see how that goes.

I could seriously hug you right now. That explains things, but what do you base it on? Is this factual, or a hypothesis?

I hate the fact that this is such an important time in my life, but yet I'm hardly mature enough to deal with things. I'm going to end up going to a mediocre college, not MIT or anything because I never had the discipline to work hard enough, and then I'm going to get a mediocre job instead of a big name job because i went to a mediocre college because of my hormones when I was a teenager.

If something interests me, I can sit for hours and read/tinker with things...
If something doesn't interest me, I can't stand doing it for more than 5 minutes.

Hell, last semester I had piles of homework... but what'd I do? Came home and programmed/read programming books for hours instead of doing my homework.

I can relate to the experience you describe. At school, I understand all the concepts involved (for every non-humanitarian subjects) with ease and take whatever they throw at me. Then after a 6 week holiday period I end up with the knowledge I had 2 years ago.

It's not based on much except my own experiences. I don't claim to know about teenage hormones at any kind of medical level No hug necessary!

Definitely the same with me...I tune things out or goof off if something doesn't interest me...

Lately in chemistry I've been goofing off to the point where I'm cracking jokes more than our boring decrepit teacher can talk. Hey, I think I'm the first person to ever get her to smile...she likes me, but she wants to be a good teacher so she's giving me a bad conduct grade (oh boohoo). Anyhow, I've been goofing off every second and for some reason I can just absorb the stuff without listening. It's weird...usually I tune out the stuff I hate, but I like sciences, and I guess it's having some weird effect on me where I'm learning it against my own will

The only class I ever have to even work at is math, but I have an A in trig, so I'm happy.

We all go through phases when we think we suck, or can't learn anything. Just keep trying and you'll catch on. Everybody had to learn at one point.

Hehehe, this is my 1337'th post. l33t ownage.
