I have seen a number of threads recently where people wee talking about temperature related stuff, (CPU temperatures, weather etc.), and again, it struck me that the US still uses Farenheit, as well as a whole host of other, non metric units.
Is there any discussion/plans/timetables to change? Obviously, your scientists etc. must work in metric, (although the farce with the Mars Climate Orbiter makes you wonder).

People get used to things very quickly. The currency in most of the EU countries changed in 2002, now, Euro's are not novel, just "money".

As it is not in everyday use in the US, I would question that it is universal. Elsewhere perhaps.

Americans are quite happy with feet, inches, yards - and farenheit.
All of our sports are measured in those measurements so don't expect a change anytime soon.
They used to teach in the 70's that if we don't convert and learn the metric system we would be left behind the rest of the world - now we laugh as we've done quite well.
That is your answer, it was attempted to teach americans about the metric system but we just didn't take to it.
Of course we use metrics for scientific and engineering - but how many americans are really into that stuff - popular culture won out.

i know we as americans probably wont change, at least for now, but metric makes more sense, units of ten, isnt that more logical?

Sure it'll cost, but as your population gets bigger, the cost rises. Leave it another ten years and it'll cost you more, whatever it costs now.
If things are already available in both metric and imperial measures, then just slowly phase the imperial ones out, that's what they did elsewhere, then one day, with a big fanfare, announce the old ones are not going to be there any more.
