Newton discovered universal gravitation. This makes respect both his intelligence and insight. It's like wow, how the hell did he come up with that? But not, wow, he is a great artist.

I've always thought of programming as the understanding a problem and a solution to it. When this is done well, I think, damn, that's a good job. Not, damn, that's beautiful.

Guess it's just me, but I can't classify anything that I am remotely good at as art .

I see what you're saying. In fact, when i'm in a art museum, nine out of ten times i'm ..........ing (my girlfriend loves me for it too ). What constitutes art is undefined...

I look at Newton, and I can see art in his work. you mention his insight and intelligence. Lots of theorists and researchers posses both. It was Newton's creativity and his ability to "think outside of the box [paradigm]" that sets him and the other revolutionary thinkers apart. The invention of Calculus must have demanded a enormous amount of imagination as well as sound reason. This is where i can say that parts of revolutionary science are art in that it exists only in the scientist's mind until his talent creates/brings it into existence. The scientist's talent is his reason; the visual artist's talent is found in his medium of choice.

    Maybe i'm too abstract...
