> I think I'd like farming.
I could probably handle that, if it paid better... Work with your hands, avoid ever having to hear "the server's down" or "the protocol's not working" again...

I expect "Mildew on the maize", "aphids on the apples" and "blackfly on the beans" would get just as tedious after a while!

Heh, cute.
It's different with animals, though - they're nicer to deal with people. My dog never accused me of not knowing what I was doing when I gave him food.

I thought about that in the past... I was even offered a job and a house on the farm that I live on that is my uncle/grandfather's... and it's not a bad deal... you get to be outside... stay in good shape doing all the work... drive a lot of big equipment...
until you look at the downside... more hours/day or week than the average man has in 2 weeks... it's impossible to take a sick day or vacation unless someone is available to do the work for you.. (this is only if you have cattle that have to be milked/fed)...
it has a lot of virtues, but you gotta be a hardworker... and it helps to be a carpenter, accountant, herbalist, weed specialist, mechanic, etc....

trust me guys it's not as fun as you think. my dad goes to work at 5:30 in the moring everyday. he has stinky cattle to take care of, not to metion steers to casterate. in the spring he works till 9 planting and the same hours in the fall harvesting only he leaves a little earlier. its hard labor, and although he has a lot in assest, the profit isnt much. he has taken me along enough and after spending a solid week in the sun and dust all day making hay, or being outside in 10 degree weather chopping wood all day, i just really dont want to be a farmer.
yum, yum potatoes!!!!!
I know it is long hours and hard work. The farm I worked on had a dairy herd and the "stinky cattle" I found to be charming, gentle, forgiving creatures. I've met a lot of business people that would not fit any of those adjectives.
Fiddling with the machinery and tending the crops was also nice.

There're plenty that fit the "stinky cattle" mold perfectly, though.

Well, I'm a programmer, but when I come home some days, I wonder if waking up being a porn star next day would be so bad

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."
When in doubt, read the FAQ.
Then ask a smart question.
Hey hey! pornstar!! Now thats an occupation!
Well I cant imagine farming to be very profitable but like ethic, I dont consider money to be the focal point in a career... I guess farming has its ups, e.g. the great outdoors. Great for ppl like me who has seen more computer jargon than blades of grass

Actually my dream job would be to work in an air-conditioned office with a bunch of colleagues you can talk with.
Mine is to get paid good money for being researched on while I'm sleeping. Ha how nice would that be, to be able to sleep and get paid at the sametime. The research would only be the researches recording my sleep habits, so it wouldn't affect me at all. Hmmm I think I gotta look into this to see if this is actually a possible career choice...Actually my dream job would be to work in an air-conditioned office with a bunch of colleagues you can talk with.
