hay.. anyone of you ever thought of one unique universal programming language ?
Everyone will learn and share knowledge of that one and work on it and with it. That would be faster development in programming language and software development industries.
What would be the demerit of it?

I believe part of the design rationale behind ADA was to be all things to everyone and look what a monster that is.

All programming languages have their advantages/disadvantages. I doubt there will ever be a "universal language" to fit all needs.
And even if one language did have the functionality from all languages, it would probably be slow...

I agree with Magos. The reason why there are so many programming languages is that each field of application has its specific needs. If you want a universal programming language, it should support embedded programming, application programming, webprogramming etc. It would be a huge language and certainly not optimal for a wide range of applications.
Exactly. If this universal language had the functionality it would require to be such a language, it would be complex and hard for beginners to learn (ie. C/C++)
If you want a crappy prototype, VB can be used. If you want your app to do something, C++. If you want to be a dickhead about it, Java. You get the point..

From what? From a universal programming language? I wonder if it would have more advantages than the currently most used languages would have. Current most used languages are almost standardised, well known and well supported by a lot of organisations and tools.
