Obviously you FRUITS don't live in Los Angeles Cali. In the backwoods your skills are welcomed - here in Cali the market is too competitive for me to be arrogant - I need every edge.

Wait a minute - you saying in LA, you don't need skills, you just need to be a dick, and you'll get hired? Man, I've been going about job searching all wrong! Time to move to LA!

Here in Cali my resume will be one of 100+ applying for the same position - when I send by fax I may be 1 of 10 or 20 who've sent by FAX.
I have to compete with senior level ppl who are searching out non-senior positions, I get the job, I'm sure b/c I am cheaper then them and will stay with them longer.
When you come to LA, I'll hook you up with a mop and bucket b/c that's what you'll be doing MORON.

Have I ever told you how appreciative I am that the webmaster unbanned you?
No?
Good.

whoop-de-doo... I'm just saying that faxing a resume isn't going to come across as exactly professional. Besides, who's the monkey for going into LA and trying to get a job when it's so much easier and less competitive out here "in the back woods"?Originally posted by OneStiffRod

howdy,
i have reviewed 1000's of resumes of engineers and designers and i will tell you this.
if you slip it under the back door (or fax it) it makes me think your probably hiding something.
i love that west coast attitude, those guys come over here thinking they are going to show us how it's done and end up leaving with thier tails tucked soundly up thier asses running back to California mumbling something about back woods hicks.

I don't like you very much. Please post a lot less.

*and then*
No, I know you were joking. My point still stands.
I mean that's how backwoods places opperate, the engineer does the hiring - in Cali you usually have a recruiter or HR person who handles that - they weed out the candidates for a 2nd interview with the IT head guy.
It's not my rules, but they do prefer the FAX over the email.

howdy,
We don't have the luxury to pack that kind of overhead around.usually have a recruiter or HR person who handles that
Most of the positions i fill are from guy/gals that bring thier resumes in to us in person.

I have noticed this with American companies that are running their R&D research labs and backend operations here.... You see American multinationals backend operation ..popularly called as BOP's in every city these days...Originally posted by PJYelton
Vasanth, is this in India or America?
Like i noticed this trend with companies such as Adobe (india), Intel, HP, Infosys, Wipro etc...
They also look for other skills... For example in Infosys all major projects they undertake are too huge.. Their work culture involves working in very large teams.. So candidates with skills to work in a team have a better advantage.. but the fellow should be good in his job the first place..
fax over email... as if that's any better. *sigh*... I swear CA is a different country sometimes...Originally posted by OneStiffRod

I remember a television commercial that featured a weird woman, with busy hair and floaty clothes twittering on about how she was "transchanneling" with someone from the planet Jupiter. Then up popped a packet of peanuts, and the voice over said, "Everyone knows the best nuts come from California".
Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity unto the dream.
Definately, face-to-face meeting is better then any other method of distributing your resume. Therefore I recommend going to recruiting events, or going to the company's personnel department directly ( if they welcome walk-ins ).
