Cool My birthday present to myself

Awwwww, I can't wait till my birthday comes around! It's going to be so much fun, or so I hope.

Since I've come to US 5 years ago (from UA) I have never gotten a good birthday present. So now I'm tired of not getting anything (please don't ask why). So on my 17'th birthday I'm gonna buy a present for myself. Oh, this is the best way to do it. So now the problem is WHAT??????????????????????

So I thought... Maybe a PDA (maybe a rip-off), a RC car, or WinXP and C++ Visual Studio.

Oh god... All these things are good. But I can only afford one. So I need some advice!?

I would not want anything to get really boring on the next day, or... you know, No!? Oh well... Just give me some advice

I'd avoid that - too many people I know (me included) don't use their PDAs nearly enough to warrant the high cost.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but then look at all the good features! MP3, video (in some)

Not of any quality. If you want mp3's, get an mp3 player, for about the same price as a low-mid PDA you can get an mp3/ogg player (I'd look for something that supports oggs, especially if you are discerning enough to hear the difference between a 128 mp3 and a .wav file), or if you want a camera, get a camera.

But don't look for an all-in-one PDA, because you get poor quality on all fronts in exchange for the quote unquote convenience.

MSVC, some people like, but I'd not advise buying it. Its pointlessly expensive, and IMO not very useful.

And RC cars, well, thats your choice. I'm not a fan, but if you like them, go for it.

My purchases usually center on hardware. You seen those prototype GeForceFX boards?

    PDA is good.

I think a pda is a good choice. I recently had the joy of playing with a palm IIIxe, which by current standards is slightly ancient. However, the longer I had it, the more I used it. I used to keep two or three notebooks (paper notebooks) about my person to make notes all the time. With the palmtop, I could make a note, or write in an addy and never waste another tree again !

    I'd suggest a PDA/Cellphone combination. That'd really rock.

    But that's just me

I always enjoyed getting rc toys as a kid Ill never forget getting a rc b-52 and dive bombing my neighbors dog for attacking my dog :-p But anyways id suggest getting something other than what you mentinoed. Ive had a pda and lets just say it was a waste of money. RC cars/planes/helicopters/hovercrafts are fun for a while but you will lose interest in them fast. WinXP will soon be replaced (if not end of this year next year), but visual studio .NET might be a good investment, but isnt much fun if you dont code a lot (and i mean a lot, like for a living or school or such). Id suggest getting urself something nice like a car :-p (j/k) Seriously id suggest getting yourself some kind of favor from a women if you know what i mean, and then spending that money on some games or a ps2 or something.

I was thinking of some PDA that I'll be able to do some coding on, even though its a small screen to do it on, but some times you've got to do what you got to do!?

Go find a dominatrix. You'll never get bored.

    Unless you're a dominatrix.

    lol!

I would have to say one of the new P4 3.06 GHZ H/T CPU's would be nice to have (ooo, baby). The new GeForceFX is supposed to come out soon (another ooo, baby). And if you can't afford those, I would recommend a GeForce4 Ti4600 if you are looking for a vid card (CHEAP, down to $200 US).

don't waste your money on a PDA. They're pretty slick at first but unless you really have a giant need for an organizer or something to keep your life on track, then you're going to toss it to the side after a few weeks.. I guarantee it.

I agree completely. Im not too fond of windows XP, I think it's just windows 2000 candy-coated with graphics.. I never really ever anjoyed RC things, So I think i would go with Visual Studio .NET.
