Yep, I genuinely don't know. I see them used from time to time and their meaning still remains a mystery.
1337 is supposed to be lEET (1 looks like l, 3 looks like backwards capital E, 7 sorta looks like a T)
leet is just slang for "elite"
So calling something 1337 means that it's elite
7331 is just a bastardization of 1337
h4x0r means someone who hacks (4 kinda looks liek a capital A, 0 looks like a capital O)
Hack + er == someone who hacks

In my experiences, people only use those terms to make fun of script-kiddie "hackers". NEver actually seen them used in seriousness.
