    Personal Program use?

I was reading the thread about making a txt editor, and what we would want from one, and that got me to thinking....how many of you out there use the programs that you develop? When i programmed in VB i had made a few programs, and i find myself using them on a almost regular basis. Well how many of you do this?

Thats probably the only time I ever program; when I need a small app for some little job.

I never use the apps i develop, because they're all...how to put this elegantly...crap

visual basic isn't a language. basic's a language, visual basic is the most technically advanced win32api wrapper.

EDIT: basic is functional psuedo code!

I use every program that I develop.

When I begin develop a program it's often because I couldn't find any program with a specific functionality on the net (for free).

    Nice one RoD!

There are a few programs I wrote for myself that I use, but the stuff that I develop professionally is rarely of any use to me, what would I do with a satellite ground station?

    >>what would I do with a satellite ground station?<<

I did hear that in America there were some poeple who were using satellite dishes or something similar to pick up raw news broadcasts before they had been edited and sanitised for public viewing. As can be imagined there were some quite horrific and possibly incriminating things being beamed around the sky. After this was discovered the government ensured that all transmission was properly encrypted.

VB isn't as bad as you'd like people to believe...I use it a lot in the design phase of my programs. It gives me wonderful ideas to implement in the C++ version. And hell, sometimes you realize that re-writing the program in a lower-level language like C++ is stupid, and it's better to keep it at a higher level.

But on topic, I'd say 70-80% of what I write I use, and the other 20-30% is stuff I write while I'm learning something, or programs for school.

I use almost of the programs I develop. The only I don't use is a text editor I developed, which actually took me a lot of time to write. But then I realised that there were millions of text editors out there & many of them better than mine.

Most of the software I write at work requires very specific hardware and a also most of them is software I don't see applications for in personal live.

Software I develop for personal use is often because I'm interested to see how things work or because I don't find the tool I need and I'm too lazy too search for it on the internet. Usually small tools or scripts.

When you program for companies isnt the code no longer your property but the propery of the business?

Or would you have to purchase the software you helped develop?
