THey think they can stop it??

    Retarded.

They think that they can stop plagerism with this software? The only way it could work is if it just compares the entire paper against every site on the internet. Papers are usualyy submitted by paper, so it would take for ages to types out a students entrie assignment again and then scanning it (which would be impossible anyway). In the end, it doesn't make any difference becuase most people change the wording after copying/pasting it.

They have other software like this at universities in the US, it compares past assignments and using a DB from a site that monitors online cheating sites. It gives back a percentage of how similar a document is to other docs. U will only be able to catch the REALLY DUMB ppl b/c they will just turn in assignment with very little changes - but u must think that given a set outline and years of assingments ALL papers will have a more than 90% relation to each other.

At least they can put a dent in the cheating, so the honest people aren't hurt as much.

You are right, if this was not done properly some people who are not cheating might be thought of as cheaters!

i think it's really stupid to implement any system of that type at the high school level. At that level the student is only hurting him/herself. I think that students should be able to cheat their way through stuff like that if it means the diff between graduating or not. I'm a firm beilever that EVERYONE should graduate from high school (or at least a GED), whether that means having to cheat to do it or not...that may sound bad, but you can't go anywhere in life if you didn't get a high school education. If you were an administrator, would you feel like cracking down on a kid like that, and possibly keeping them from graduating? Putting them in a serious low paying job (if they can even get that)? I think with the way that education requirements are going up, all kids should be allowed to graduate from high school (i don't mean purposely pass them, but don't expel them on stupid stuff like the above, unless it's blatent, the cross comparison for like papers shouldn't be an active venture). College is the only place where I would say this is a good idea, because college diploma's will put you in higher paying jobs, you shouldn't be allowed to just walk into those.

    But that's just my opinion.

Well if students have to hand in copies on disks, they would have to provide adequate classes and resources for students to be able to submit files this way.

People plagerise in HS, because they know the rules arent that strict. Once University/College come around, if you are caught, cya later, no questions asked.

The people marking your essays have a vast knowledge of the subject they are teaching. If you copy something, they may in fact know the exact reference you got it.

plagerism is like piracy you cant stop it no matter what you do there is a way to do it. you know smoking pot is against the US law, some US citizens still smoke it. all you can do is hold it back some
