Well, actually the question was simply what was the worst film, rather than what is the worst film & why?

But since you're asking, then because it's the most boring, long drawn out and pointless drivel I have ever seen. What really got me is that it finished at 23:05, whereas if it had had the decency to finish at 22:50, I could have made it to the pub for last orders (bars/pubs close at 23:00 in the UK).

Also, the film never had an ending. Rather it abrubtly stopped in the middle of the action. If I'd have known this was going to happen, I could have left half way through & made it to the pub instead.

I think the film relies on 'intellectual snobbery', where people claim that to enjoy the film you had needed to read all the books first, and because they had read all the books they are more cleverer. King & no clothes and all that.

1. The Blair Witch Project. This overhyped movie was so awful that I kept wondering when the "scary parts" would happen. They never did. Instead, I listened to a group of people shout profanities while running around in the woods and shakily holding their camera.

2. Hackers. Script kiddie culture adores anything that gives them a view of the life of a "real hacker." It was really a crappy love story with bad music and Angelina Jolie at her least attractive. Every time a computer screen was shown, it was some sort of unrealistic 3-D thing, which made the whole thing seem like some half-attempted joke.

3. Any musical.

4. Dude! Where's My Car? This movie was repetitive with a poor plot. Few of the jokes were funny at all.

5. James Bond: The World Is Not Enough. I stopped watching it half way through. Luckily, it was only a rented video.

Woohoo, someone with the bottle to speak out!! I too am not into the whole fantasy stuff either and although I didn't think it was as bad as you did, I certainly found it no better than mediocre. And like you, I definitely notice an air of pretentiousness (is that a word?) around it. It's like, if you didn't like it, you can't have understood it or you are to narrow minded to appreciate the 'beauty' of it. Up until now I just played along with the whole 'oh yeah it's great', but nice to see I'm not the only one who didn't think it all that great.
