What's up with the Mac hating going on in here? Mac OS is incredibly easy to learn and use. All the time, friends are telling me about their Windows problems, and I just have to laugh because all of their problems could be solved by getting a Mac.

I do have to give Linux an awful lot of credit, though. That's a really good OS. When I have to get another computer which is quite soon, I'm going to get Linux; however, Macs will always have a special place in my heart

In case you couldn't tell, I'm a Mac enthusiast. At school, I program on a G4 using CodeWarrior. At home, I use the only free compiler available for Macs, Macintosh Programmer's Workshop (MPW). MPW gets the job done, but CodeWarrior is much easier to use. I'd have to say that I like CodeWarrior much better than MPW.

Why is it that Macs are practically never mentioned by sites about C++ programming? The C Board doesn't have a forum for questions specific to Mac programming, and there's only one free C++ compiler in the world for Macs. Why is that?

I don't think there is much out for macs in regards to a lot of software. as far as programming goes, i think most are just linux/windows biased (don't flame me here, but it seems this way), at least because a lot of (free) compilers and the such are written for non-mac platforms. I personally haven't kept up to speed about macs, since my old mac years ago. so i don't really know pros/cons to either. which leads me to a question, what are the pros/cons of mac v. windows v. linux? a simple summary should suffice. I'm looking to buy a laptop for college, and I would like to know if it would be more advantageous to buy a pc or mac. i know this may be off topic, but since we are talking about macs anyway. thanks.

I don't like macs for the sheer fact of the bull**** they propose in the anti-pc commercials. One sticks in my mind, this guy is talking about photo editing on his mac and how powerful it was, then he said "no pc program can do that!" or something...i just wanted to slap him with a cold fish and say, "ever heard of photoshop??"

Id say its becuase Macs are not as common, especially with programmers.

Mac OSX comes with a compiler built into the Terminal. And a sweet IDE called Developers Studio comes with it too.

I use Microsoft Visual C++. I like it, compared to the other compliers that I have used over time.

macs are too user fiendly to be having a frustrating compiler

naw, if you have a MAC, chances are, your not into programming, but digital art, seeing as MACS (and especially iMacs) have extreme screen resolution, and you do wither 2d art or 3d art., maybe a little animation, but thats all macs are really good for. but macs are a little hard to program for (that ive found).

Windows is user fiendly, but its the most popular OS in the world. even though Mac came out beforehand, Bill has taken over the world with Windows.

Linux is less user friendly, but crashed a helluvalot less, and is made for the programmers out there. but families can still use it with ease. the fact that they are also some of the cheapest OSs out there also count points for the,m too (Mandrake Linux Powerpack 9.0 is $80 here, and Windows XP home is $500 canadian here, if not a helluvalot more!)

but Windows is a medium OS, user-friendly and for programmers. also for family use. macs are for schools who dont teahc programming, windows for schools who do both, and i have yet to see a school running linux (why!?!?! its cheaper damnit!)

but there are definitly programmers out there programming Mac specific programs. or else there wouldn't be programs for Mac, so your not left in the dust.

btw, i would choose macs look over windows XP, but i would choose mandrake linux gnome2.0 look over macs)

i mean seriously, bills artists half-arsed it with their icons! the folder looks....well liek a folder, but its not detailed in any way! now with XP they got a little better, but still doesn;t compare to linuxs look.

I read in maximum pc they had to do a few of the commercials over because the actors accidently tried explaining how they switched over to PCs from Mac, that's true too lol.

by the way Ride - or - die, just in case you dont know your history (i just read your sig), we backed your assed up all the time.

WW1, the infamous canadian battle of Vimmy Ridge, the first battle led by a canadian, led the canadians to victory, and we did something no US person or british could, take over Vimmy Ridge. this gained us independance from Britain (we were originally apart of them).

WW2, we won, we went in and saved your US ass, and we won the battle. Canadian generals like to think things over, and plan to the smallest detail, and train their troops. USA just does the orders and be done with it.

I'm a little offended that you're suggesting that simply because I have a Mac, I'm not as interested in programming as others, especially considering that computer science will most likely be my major. Also, the reason I am currently using an iBook is because my school provided it to me for an online course it offered because I didn't have a computer. I hope to get a new computer soon running Linux *crosses fingers*.

Where the fark are you getting that?! I'm taking two courses in programming this year. In addition to those course, my school offers at least three more from Pascal to C++ to the AP course.

Yeah, but from what I've seen, Mac programmers used to use Pascal or VB, and now, they use OS X which I do not have. I do feel left in the dust

I largely agree if the Mac is only running OS 9; however, I would find it tough to decide between Linux and Mac OS X.
