I can't believe your likening C++ to an SUV. SUVs are bulky, ineffiecent, and dangerous; studies show that SUVs are likely to tip over even in low speed crashes. On the other hand, C++, written correctly, is elegant and safe. I don't see how the two are anything like each other.

I'm the only one using Java, I feel so alone.

The library functions make everything so simple. I can make a web browser or an e-mail client in like two pages of code. Plus I can use the binary on my linux or windows box. ( and i'm forgetful sometimes so automatic garbage-collection is nice )

btw: I don't think java is the best, hell , I use C++ in all my courses ; but I just don't think Java should be ruled out for certain desktop applications.

I don't know anything about java, so I was just wondering, why do you hate it so much? What makes it worse than C++?

On a side note, does anyone else find 86 votes for FORTRAN to be a little suspicious?

Well, I use Java too and I like it, but it's currently not my most used language.

Yeah, that seems a little odd to me, too. Sigh.

    >>> ok... who is the ***** that messed up with the poll with the 86 Fortran votes?

I suspect the ***** that "messed up the poll" was me.

When people post new polls on the board, they inevitably fail to set an expiration date, or set a ridiculously long one. Since voting in an old thread bumps it, (against the board rules), I habitually open all new polls that get posted and either set or modify, (as necessary), the poll expiry date, (rarely more than 7 days).

Most of the polls are so dumb, I don't bother voting, but in this case I did, however, instead of going back up through the menu tree, and then coming back down again, I edited the vote count for Fortran to "whatever it was + 1".

    So far this is fact.

Now I'm guessing, when I did that, I probably missed the delete key and then typed the "next" digit, thus making the figure /much/ larger than it should have been. I have now split the difference and set Fortran to 7. I believe this to be fair.

Anyone who chooses to differ, is free, (as at any time), to PM me or another mod.

If anyone /knows/ different - then my guess was wrong of course. Also, perhaps there really are more Fortran fans out there than we suspect...

I prefer C over C++, contrary to most people here.

    Care to share why?
Has C something that C++ hasn't? (besides the Xtra speed)

    ::raises hand::

These polls are such a waste of time. People, we're on a board for cprogramming. You expect an even cross section of programmers here? Poll a general programming newsgroup or something.
