VHDL???? you got to be kidding
who wants to learn that?
I'm learning because I have to, and I'm stuck with a very simple program, aaarg this bug is driving me crazy, oh well
if you're intrested in the guts of a microprocesor, try
Computer Organization & design.
by David Patterson and John Hennessy.
ISBN 1-55860-491-X
I had to by this book for school, but it is intresting.
It explains how to implement assembler instructions (like lw, jmp, sw, add) in hardware. and it goes until port level, designing the datapath, controlpath and stuf like that (studying this right now)
BTW, do you a have a win2k version of your behold prog yet?
well seeing as how i'm an EE major i guess i should get started sooner than later. haha
what do you recommend to learn then? under 10 bucks. =)~

If you want to learn VHDL, here's a free compiler from bluepc and the manual . I don't think it is a great program, we use it at school (and it sucks IMHO, but it is free). It should get you started.
And yes, if you're a EE major then you should learn it. Maybe I overreacted a bit, but it is because I'm stuck a the moment with my (very simple )program .
thanks there. i talked to my cousin seeing him over christmas break and he told me there were other commercially viable HDLs like 'ock' (don't know if that's the correct spelling), and um, well i forget at the moment. but is there any faq on the subject? i'd imagine there's a whole set of bias' on the hardware side as much as there is on the software side. i just want to get a head start with a clear view. thanks!

hmmm faq. I never searched for tutorials or faq on the internet. i got al my info from my books from school. They won't help you much because they're dutch.
But I (well, not me, my teacher) did found a vhdl reference pdf and a tutorial . Maybe that can get you started a bit.
